Chapter 404: More heartlessness exposed.
The members of the Mo family were gathered again. Not to discuss a way out, because the clever ones had sold whatever they could and paid fines to avoid jail time. But, they had come together because of a tragedy.
Grandpa Mo, the patriarch of their family had taken one look at the peep star’s post and got a stroke. Despite being taken to a hospital, he had not survived. Death had claimed him with greedy claws like it had always been waiting for him.
That is why the Mo’s were gathered in a funeral hall, dressed in black mourning clothes and staring at blank walls.
Around them people whispered about the uncanny fate of the family.
"How many members of their family have died this year alone?"
"They must be haunted."
"I must visit a temple and cleanse after this funeral is over or their bad luck might follow me home."
The Mo’s heard what was said and didn’t bother to respond. Their luck was unnaturally bad this year. Death was truly haunting them.
At exactly midday, inside the cold prison, Mo Liang and Mo Wenbin received a guest. It was Mo Wenbin’s wife and she was wearing anger on her face, twisting her nose as if the prison smelled of filth. Her eyes were filled with contempt each time she looked at any of the prisoners.
Even her shoulders were pulled in every time a prisoner passed by her. It was like she was afraid to be contaminated by them. Like they had a disease she was afraid would get on her skin.
