The next day, just as He Zhilan had guessed, He Teng woke up at the crack of dawn when the sky was still dim.

"It’s not even five yet; keep sleeping." He Teng gently patted the back of He Zhilan’s hand. Seeing her fall back asleep shortly after, he shook his head with an amused smile—she looked just like a child, so endearing.
By five o’clock, the village was already awake. Niu Li called He Teng over to Xiaojia’s house, and together with Xiaojia and her cousin, the group of four set off down the mountain.
The descent was noticeably faster than the climb, but by the time they finished the trek and reached the town, boarded the bus, and arrived at the county, it was already 8:30 AM. Most of the shops in the county had opened by then.
Knowing He Teng had his own matters to attend to, the three agreed on a meeting time and place before splitting up at the station.
