"Oh right, Lin Chan’s parents are really nice, they like girls a lot, so..." He Zhilan was a master of changing the subject, as she raised her eyebrows at He Dongxue and, before He Dongxue could react, quickly stood up and ran to He Teng’s side, chuckling incessantly.
"Sister-in-law!" He Dongxue stomped her feet in frustration!
He Dongxue’s voice was not soft, and coupled with He Zhilan’s sudden appearance, as well as her rather cunning laughter, He Teng couldn’t help but look towards He Dongxue, then glanced at He Zhilan, and asked in a low voice, "Bullying Dongxue?"
"Not at all!" He Zhilan stuck out her tongue playfully, "I don’t even have time to dote on her!"
Patting He Teng on the shoulder and seeing that the soup on the table had cooled, He Zhilan picked it up and went to reheat it.
On New Year’s Eve, the He Family celebration continued till eleven at night before breaking up, and He Teng walked his comrades down to the ground floor, while He Zhilan and He Dongxue swiftly tidied up the table.
"It looks like my brother is drunk," He Dongxue said worriedly as she looked outside the door, "He wouldn’t just fall asleep outside after seeing his comrades off, would he?"
"Trust your brother, he would never do such a thing in his lifetime," He Zhilan reassured He Dongxue with a confident look, "I’ll make him some sobering tea."
Indeed, He Teng was a bit tipsy tonight, even his walk was somewhat unsteady, but as assumed, sleeping outside was something he would never do in his lifetime.
Once inside the house, He Zhilan led He Teng to sit on a chair, then poured him a cup of sobering tea. After tidying up the kitchen dishes with He Dongxue and seeing it was very late, she urged He Dongxue to rest early.
He Teng gulped down the tea like a drinking ox, making a gurgle with each swallow. The alcohol didn’t sober him up much, but it did result in a hearty belch.
