On the plane, He Da had already undergone a complete change. Once he was discharged, He Zhilan took him to get a haircut, bought him several sets of new clothes, and even trimmed his nails. Though he still looked emaciated, his overall spirit seemed much better than when they first started out.
"Elder brother, after the plane lands, a little train ride will get us home." He Zhilan quietly said, glancing at He Da, who was eagerly looking out of the plane window.
He Da nodded, pulling back his gaze, "Who would have thought I, He Da, would live to see the day where I would return home by plane and reunite with my family! But really Zhilan, you shouldn’t have bought new clothes for me, it’s a waste of money! Old clothes would have sufficed, anyhow, I only have one leg left, so no clothes will look good.
"Who says? In the past, plenty of village girls were charmed by He Da of the He family. If you keep talking like this, I will break down in tears! When we get home, you better not belittle yourself like that. Can you imagine how it will hurt Dad if he hears that?" Zhilan feigned crying, instantly rendering He Da speechless and forcing him to scratch his head in surrender.
Traveling might not have been exhaustive for Zhilan, but it was torment for He Da, who had lost a leg. Especially getting on and off steps, taking the train and plane, all these activities posed a challenge to his physical condition.
