Seeing He Teng nod and say okay before turning to leave, He Zhilan suddenly called out his name, asking, "Am I going to be alone here at the guesthouse tonight? Won’t you stay with me?"
"If you’re afraid of the dark, leave the light on. If you’re worried about safety, you don’t need to be. This is a military base." He Teng replied without even looking back. Then he gently closed the door for He Zhilan and hastily left the guesthouse.
Looking at the closed door, He Zhilan sighed, He Mutou really was He Mutou. She speculated that He Teng must be questioning why she had come to find him at the base after their divorce.
He Zhilan didn’t know if He Teng would also retract the tiny bit of affection he still held for her as he lost trust in her.
He treated her now just as one would respectfully treat a divorced ex-wife. Were it not for the fact that she was still a daughter of the He family, He Zhilan didn’t doubt that love him could have been denied entry into the base after the divorce.
That night was the first time He Zhilan stayed alone in the guesthouse at the base. The two previous times, they had stayed in the same room. This time, however, she was in a new, unfamiliar room. She wasn’t sure if this was intentional or not.
Nevertheless, she truly felt ill at ease.
