Here, his father had promised, their pursuers had no claim over the land.

They would be safe.

That had obviously been a lie seeing how his father was missing and Varziel was alone, almost dying of hunger even.

The little girl turned to the older boy, her small hands resting on her hips. "I told you I need to rest, Castiel," she said, her petulant voice sounding melodic in Varziel’s ears. It was as though it carried the echoes of a thousand songs. "My feet hurt and it’s freezing outside. We can’t even fly because of how cold it is."

"You little brat," Castiel sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose in exasperation. "The only reason we aren’t flying is because you said your wings hurt; now it is your feet that hurt. Do you want me to toss you off a cliff?"

"You wouldn’t dare!" The girl gasped, as if the thought was impossible.

Although his tone was chastising, the older angel still crouched down and wiped the snow off of her shoulders. "We do not have time for this, Arella; we are not here to play."

Arella, the little girl, pouted and crossed her arms, "I am not playing Cassie. I am tired, and it is freezing." She glanced around more as her arms were stretched out to the sides for the older angel to fix the large coat she wore. It was then that Varziel noticed the tips of her own wings poking out of her coat. "Ugh. This place is absolutely dreadful."

"It is the only place we can rest, and also you chose it." Castiel said as his eyes finally scanned the room as well. His gaze landed in the corner where Varziel had crouched to hide, and he visibly froze.

Instinctively, Varziel shrunk further into himself, as if that would make him disappear into the walls. His wings curled around him like a shield, and the only thing that remained visible were his eyes that peered through the crack in his wings to peer at the two angels. His heart pounded in his chest as he fervently wished that the angel had not seen him, that he had not noticed his existence.
