Chapter 107: Demon taking over
Theresa hurriedly guided Anastasia away from the inner side of the palace until they came to a stop in the middle of a deserted corridor. She turned to look at the young woman and asked in a panic,
"W—what in God’s name happened there?! Was it the devil??"
Still reeling from shock, Anastasia distantly registered Theresa’s bewildered exclamation,
"I have never seen or heard of such a thing before! Those horns—"
"Demon," Anastasia whispered, her eyes staring into space, her hands cold from the shock of seeing Dante’s transformation. She shifted her gaze to meet Theresa’s eyes and repeated, "Demon blood... that is what flows through the veins of the Blackthorn family."
"I have heard rumours about it, but what we saw back there has never been spoken of before," Theresa said as she paced back and forth, wringing her hands.
Anastasia couldn’t shake off the chill she had felt earlier from merely looking at Dante’s intimidating demeanour when he was in his demon form, and when he had walked towards them, she had felt her stomach drop in fear. She knew they were living among demons, but this was a different situation! However, relief washed over her when those red eyes didn’t fall on her. She asked,
"Do you know where I can find Gabriel?" It was only a matter of time, before word would soon spread in the palace about the demon that had made its appearance.
Theresa quickly glanced left and right to ensure their conversation wasn’t being overheard before asking, "Do you plan to leave?"
Anastasia’s lips tightened, and her eyebrows furrowed in concern. She stated firmly, "This palace is unsafe, Auntie; I want to ask you to come with me and Gabriel... We have no idea what other things might happen here in the future." Not to mention, her body responded to the man, stirring up unfamiliar emotions.
"It isn’t as easy as you think, Anna," Theresa remarked, having grown older during her time in the palace, lacking the same spirit of youthful bravery as Anastasia. "No wonder people have called him the cursed prince," she murmured as she shook her head in worry. After witnessing what Anastasia had seen, Theresa didn’t blame the young woman for wanting to pack her bags and run.
