"Please calm down," the doctor advised before he began to explain. "Dario Deluxe is fine. His wounds should heal in a few weeks, but he can be discharged today, and Alex King has been stabilized."
Relief washed over both Nancy and Aiden, but the doctor explained further. "The bullet missed his spinal cord by a millimeter, and he can be discharged in a few days."
Aiden and Nancy were happy, but not for long. Their worry for Joan dominated the excitement they felt earlier, and Aiden quickly asked the doctor, "What about Joan? The baby?"
The doctor sighed. "Joan’s body is quite weak, and I suggest two weeks of bed rest, or she might lose the babies," he disclosed. Aiden’s eyes widened.
"Excuse me, did you say babies?" This sounded like the best news he had heard today. Alex would wake up feeling like the happiest man in the world.
"Yes, the scan shows that she’s carrying triplets. She needs to be more careful in the future if she wants to keep all of them," the doctor concluded. Aiden embraced Nancy tightly, and the two were in tears.
"This is good news. Grandpa must hear this, but do you mind if we transfer them to the King’s hospital? I can settle the bills here first," Aiden offered, but the doctor did not refuse.
This was the closest hospital to the island, so most cases treated were usually emergencies.
"Of course, they can be transferred, except...." The doctor paused, making Aiden anxious, but Nancy was even more disturbed at this moment.
"Except what?" Nancy’s voice cut through, and the doctor forced a smile. "Logan King’s condition is critical, and we have to keep him in ICU for an indefinite time."
Aiden wasn’t so saddened by this news, as it did not override Joanna’s good news. This was the first time the Kings were going to have triplets, so everyone, including the secret haters, would be so happy.
