Chapter 164 – Try Me
"I thought I’d have dinner with my wife for the last time," Alex rose to his feet and said, pulling out a chair for Joanna.
Last time? Joanna’s heart sank, and tears stung the corners of her eyes, yet she held them back. After all they had been through together, Alex was still going ahead with the divorce.
She couldn’t explain how it happened, but somewhere along the line, her heart became entangled in this game of love, and she fell in love with a man she shouldn’t have.
"Can we negotiate? Can’t we just be together?" Her pleading voice broke Alex’s heart, but with all that was going on, he had to put her safety before everything. Then again, Dion’s savior was also there.
The dangers around him were just too much. "I’m sorry, no. Here is the divorce agreement."
Despite the candlelit dinner, Alex pushed the divorce papers in front of her.
Joanna’s heart was heavy with pain, but if this was what Alex wanted, there was nothing she could do about it. After all, he already had someone, and she was just standing in his way.
Without reading the document, she signed it. "Can I have my ring back?" She removed the expensive ring Alex bought her and dropped it on the table.
Both rings were family heirlooms, and for some reason, Alex was not ready to part with the one Joanna gave him because it was from her.
