A notification rang sharply as a pop-up appeared against the pitch-black backdrop of the game menu. The sound repeated again—Ding. Then again—Ding. Each time, the same black screen lit up with glowing blue text.

Mikey grinned, pleased by his received notifications.
’Yes! I’m getting paid!’ he pumped his fist, eyes wide with excitement.
There sure was nothing better than this- getting paid for sleeping with fictional characters and leveling up. Well—except for the fact that he’d been scammed trying to convert his soul cores to actual money. But still, it sounded great to him. He had stats now. Power. Gains. And it was everything he could ask for.
But still, regardless of his new found gains and profits, a name crept back into his thoughts like a whisper in the dark.
