Chapter 38: The Perfect Plan...Or Not
Mikey took deep, heavy breaths, his chest rising and falling in a desperate attempt to calm himself. His throat felt dry, and his hands clammy.
"Okay... okay Mikey... stay calm." he muttered, clenching his fists. But no matter how much he tried to reassure himself, the truth remained—he had lost the money. Seven thousand dollars, gone. Just like that, not that he ever had it anyway.
"Damn it." he hissed under his breath, dragging his fingers through his hair. He thought he could have made it work by forming a way to save himself and Aurora.
But the world had proved him wrong—again.
There was no borrowing that kind of money. Not as an average student like him.
’Seven thousand dollars. Who in their right mind would lend me that amount? Not that I can pay it back by the way.’
The answer was clear—Hmo one. He was alone in this. Left with nothing but the gnawing weight of uncertainty, the kind that slithered beneath his skin and refused to let go.
The more he thought about it, the more unbearable it became. How had it come to this? How had Aurora ended up in such a mess, owing that much? The question festered, whispering accusations in the silence.
"So what the hell do I do now?" he thought, his pulse pounding. He had two choices— run away and let the Iron Vipers decide whether to save Aurora or figure out another way to scrape together seven grand.
He swallowed hard. He needed a plan, ’cause there was no way in hell he was going to sit back and take a beatdown. But what other option did he have? He had hours at most until Son would demand for the money, so what the hell could he do?
"Damn it, think!" he scolded himself. His only options were either skipping school or, even crazier, skipping life itself. He snorted at the absurdity. What was he going to do, lock himself in his room forever? Hide away until the world forgot he existed? Though, it didn’t really sound that bad to him.
