Emory and I exchanged one last glance before bolting back toward the information room.
When we burst through the door, the scene before us was... suspiciously calm.
Nolan stood perfectly poised, mop in hand, his princely composure intact. Kai perched primly on a bookshelf, preening his feathers with an air of innocence.
Two smiling faces.
...And yet.
A single blue feather drifted lazily through the air.
On Nolan’s forehead, a faint red mark—distinctly beak-shaped—slowly darkened.
I stared.
Did they... fight?
