Chapter 18 Little Chu’er Is Back
Bai Zhixi listened to her daughter passionately detailing her plans, looked at the three empty cans on the table, the little notebook filled with two full pages of notes, and then at her daughter who seemed emboldened with enthusiasm, she felt as if this all was a dream.
Everything before her eyes was unbelievable.
"You’re saying you’ve already sold fifty jin of pickled cucumbers?" Bai Zhixi confirmed nervously.
"Uh-huh, we can’t get the money just yet, the restaurant will pay us after they sell the pickled cucumbers, one jin for just one yuan."
Bai Zhixi couldn’t help but say: "One yuan is quite a lot, cucumbers are only 50 cents per jin, plus the cost of the ingredients, the cost per jin is at most 50 cents, so we could make at least 50 cents in profit."
Upon hearing this, Wan Chu’er smiled; her pricing seemed quite reasonable, although not as profitable as what the restaurant would make, but she was going for volume, to win with quantity.
"You’re right, we need to prepare at least fifty jin of pickled cucumbers in three days."
Bai Zhixi finally believed her daughter’s words and involuntarily grabbed Wan Chu’er’s hand, holding it tight.
In her excitement, she said: "Chuchu, you’ve accomplished such a big thing in just one afternoon, why didn’t you tell mom about it? If I had known earlier, I would have gone to negotiate. For a girl like you, still in school, to negotiate with so many restaurants, how difficult that must be.
Do you know how happy you’ve made mom by doing this? I’m not just happy because you sold fifty jin of pickled cucumbers; it’s more because... because our Chuchu has finally grown up, learned to care for her mom. If your dad knew, he would be so happy..."
Bai Zhixi was somewhat incoherent, rambling on with much to say, now finally convinced that her sensible and clever Little Chu’er was back.
