Reincarnated as a failed hero?! Watch me Defy Fate!

Chapter 116: I Just Want to be Like You

Kael’s POV:

I stood alongside Freya, Leopold, and Erine’s team, fighting off the dungeon break monsters that relentlessly attacked the knights stationed here. One after another, the creatures fell, but there was no end in sight.

Meanwhile, Cain, my elder brother, faced Zorx, the fearsome male demon whose power knew no bounds. The clash between them was deafening, the battlefield drenched in chaos. Yet Zorx, with his malevolent grin, showed no signs of tiring.

Without warning, Zorx unleashed his [Apocalyptic Flame Eruption] from above. Black flames, shaped like a demonic shadow, descended upon us, consuming the very air around us. It felt as if death itself had taken form.

Freya and Leopold moved in unison, their swords igniting with brilliant crimson light. "[Flamemore Swordsmanship: Crimson Erupted]!" they shouted, pouring every ounce of their mana into their blades. The two fiery strikes met Zorx’s flames, creating a violent clash of fire and shadows. But even their combined strength wasn’t enough.

The black flames surged forward, forcing Freya and Leopold back. The impact sent them tumbling to the ground, the inferno hurtling ever closer to us.

I couldn’t hesitate. My hands gripped my sword, [Ignis], a weapon I had never fully mastered. This blade was a gift from the Patriarch of the Flamemore family himself—a last token for the third son who had failed to inherit the family’s famed swordsmanship. Unlike Cain and Leopold, whose talent with Flamemore techniques was legendary, I was... different.

Yet I knew this gift wasn’t given lightly. Somewhere within [Ignis] slumbered a fire of unimaginable strength. And now, I had no choice but to wake it.

I closed my eyes and focused, pouring all my mana into the sword. Every ounce of power, every last drop of energy, flowed through me and into [Ignis]. This is it. If I didn’t act now, Freya, Leopold, Erine, everyone—would die. Even Cain would fall.

The flames roared louder. Zorx’s attack was only meters away, and in that final moment, I felt it—the sword’s true power surging through my veins. My mind was flooded with knowledge of a spell I had never learned. The name appeared as if carved into my very soul.

"[Phoenix’s Protection]!" I roared.
