Reincarnated as a failed hero?! Watch me Defy Fate!

Chapter 72: The Guardian of Night

I was successfully transported to Earth. Emerging from the magic circle, I formed my body from particles of light. Now, I’ve arrived in Tokyo—the city where I last lived with my family.

But my older sister, Takahiro Nana, is in danger. I don’t know the exact nature of the threat, but I received a warning notification from the Goddess of Benevolence.

As soon as I arrived, I rushed to find Nana. I only have three hours to resolve this crisis before I’m pulled back to Aetheria.

It’s already nighttime—8 p.m. Nana should be at home with our mom and older brother, Naki.

Without wasting a second, I headed there to check on her. I weaved through the crowded streets, realizing I’d teleported near the city center. Luckily, my old home isn’t too far from here; I can run the rest of the way.

As I dashed through the streets, a few people gave me strange looks. What’s their problem?

"Idiot! You’re dressed like that, and you don’t even have shoes or sandals! Of course, they think you’re a beggar!" Envi, my snarky companion, scolded me.

He was right. I caught a glimpse of myself in a storefront window. Embarrassed, I noticed I was still wearing my undershirt, with bandages wrapped around my body, and no shoes at all. I had been in such a hurry I didn’t even notice.

Reluctantly, I rummaged through a nearby trash bin and managed to find a white shirt, black pants, sunglasses, and sneakers. Strangely enough, they were in good condition—barely dirty. Who would throw away perfectly good clothes like this?

As I changed, I muttered in annoyance, "Why does this always happen when I return to Earth? I end up dumpster diving for a disguise every time."

"Hah! The proud Blackmore heir, reduced to scavenging in the trash! The family would be mortified! A future hero, digging through garbage—hilarious!" Envi jeered.
