Cordyceps - Epilogue
Epilogue
Feronie watched, in her own way, as her little crusader went about her little life.
As a goddess, understanding was never entirely out of her reach. She had seen eons pass, history had faded into obscurity as she watched and tended to the world. There was little that happened that she didn’t understand at least in part.
Or... perhaps it would be better to say that she understood the greater picture, the broader strokes.
What mortals did and why they did these things had been so far beneath her notice for so long that now she was uncertain of what to think of the actions of her Crusader.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Feronie wanted death and devastation, a great cleansing fire that would allow new sprouts to grow. She had given her Crusader gifts to that effect. Powers and abilities that had cost Feronie something she could barely afford to give, and which should have made her Crusader perfect for the task.
Instead, it seemed as if her little Crusader was more focused on pruning some few mortals.
The goddess was prepared for disappointment... but it worked. In little ways, each death travelled through the great mortal city and changed its form. Anger was stoked, suspicions rose, and the interest of dark and malevolent gods was pulled into the wake of her Crusader, the kind of divine being who hungered for intrigue and backstabbing and chaos.
Feronie decided to conserve her energy for the moment and watch as her Crusader did her work. Trust had to be earned and reciprocated, and Feronie trusted that her Crusader would bring about the end of this little mortal world in due time.
