He sent another one: "MS, can you help Liam celebrate? I sprained my foot, and I can’t make it there tomorrow."
Maureen: Is Niel some sort of famous influencer?
Why did he retract his message only to replace it with an abbreviation?
She really didn’t understand these boys.
As far as Maureen could remember, the birthday she had celebrated for Liam was indeed bland.
She initially thought there would be a birthday banquet on Liam’s side.
But there wasn’t. Even if there was no banquet, she had thought that Niel and others would join her in planning something like how they celebrated her birthday last time - an entire room filled with colourful balloons, complete with fireworks and party poppers, making it utterly romantic - but it wasn’t what she had expected.
Everyone else was collectively unavailable; nobody came.
She was the only one that Liam brought home.
Maureen felt guilty.
If she had known that she would be the only person to celebrate Liam’s birthday, she would have started preparing early.
