Chapter 65: The Auction
The exhibit started with a presentation about the antique collection. It was Juliano Garcia’s grandmother, who was fond of old and rare items. However, she died a year, so the family decided to hold an event and put the collection in an auction.
Then they allowed them to have a look at the sample pieces that would be put at auction before presenting them separately. In total of a hundred pieces, only twenty would be sold at the event. The rest of the collection would be put in an antique museum.
"Now, we’re going to start the bidding for the first piece. Our first item is the Qianlong Dynasty Vase. A master artisan had made this vase for the Emperor in the 1740s. During this period in Britain, porcelain was only just beginning to be formed, and had none of the grace and sophisticated designs of its Chinese counterparts. It is believed that the vase was likely robbed from the Royal Palace in the late 1800s, a time recognized for significant theft from a collection of sources. Starting bid for this rare historical piece is ten million dollars." The host said.
Three people raised their number and one of them took a bid for twenty million dollars.
"Going twice?" The host asked.
"Forty." A woman wearing a red pencil cut dress raised a number.
Caden leaned toward her. "Would you like me to bid for that vase?"
She knew he was just teasing her, so she laughed at it.
"Anyone would take it for fifty million?"
"Fifty." A man responded.
"Fifty-five million dollars!" The woman in the red dress shouted.
"Any higher takers? No one? Then sold for fifty-five million dollars to our gorgeous lady over there." The host smiled.
