Chapter 51: Yuki Shimizu
Neon signs bled vibrant hues across the rain-slicked streets of Shinjuku. Four figures stood amidst the deserted intersection, clad in identical black trench coats, their faces obscured by deep shadows cast from wide-brimmed hats.
Opposite them stood a girl who seemed to defy the very gloom that shrouded her adversaries. Her long, flowing hair, the color of freshly fallen snow, cascaded down her back, catching the neon glow and radiating a soft, ethereal light.
The silence stretched, thick and heavy, punctuated only by the insistent drumming of the rain. Then, the first move. The figure on the left, his movements swift and silent as a striking viper, extended a hand. The air around his palm shimmered, and a vortex of swirling darkness began to form, a miniature black hole threatening to consume everything in its vicinity.
Before the vortex could expand, the white-haired girl reacted. Her eyes flashed, and a crystalline barrier of pure energy erupted around her, shimmering with an inner luminescence. The black hole slammed against the barrier, its destructive force momentarily contained, the impact sending shockwaves through the rain-soaked asphalt.
She was Yuki Shimizu.
The two other figures in black moved in tandem. The one on the right, a hulking figure known only as Goro, slammed his fists together. The ground beneath their feet trembled, and fissures spider-webbed across the street. Jagged pillars of rock erupted from the earth, hurtling towards Yuki like deadly projectiles. Goro commanded the tectonic forces beneath their urban battlefield.
Simultaneously, the figure in the center, lean and wiry, known as Rei, blurred into motion. He moved with impossible speed, a phantom darting through the downpour, leaving afterimages in his wake. He accelerated, pushing his body to the limit, rushed at Yuki and overwhelmed her—then the other two would finish her off.
Yuki’s white hair whipped around her face as she focused her energy. The crystalline barrier pulsed, deflecting the razor-sharp rock pillars with a series of resounding cracks. At the same time, her eyes tracked Rei’s movements, processing his incredible speed, anticipating his attacks. Just as his fist, crackling with kinetic energy, was about to connect, Yuki unleashed a burst of pure light from her hands.
The blinding flash momentarily stunned Rei, forcing him to momentarily retreat. But Kai and Goro pressed their advantage. The void vortex intensified its pull, straining Yuki’s energy barrier, while another volley of earth projectiles rained down upon her. Yuki knew she couldn’t maintain her defense indefinitely against such a coordinated and relentless assault.
With a guttural cry, she released the barrier, shattering it into a thousand glittering fragments. Instead of collapsing, however, she channeled the released energy, focusing it into a concentrated beam of light that shot towards Kai. He was forced to dissipate the void vortex to create a counter-shield of darkness, momentarily disrupting their synchronized attack.
This brief respite was all Yuki needed. She unleashed a powerful pulse of Lumina energy, not as a shield, but as a repelling force. The three black-clad figures were momentarily pushed back, creating a crucial distance. Yuki then weaved a series of intricate hand signs, and the very light around her seemed to bend and distort.
