Chapter 21: Handing over the petty cash

Tong Yao was stunned as she looked at the wad of bills handed over by Si Chen. She had even planned where to go to report him for domestic violence, an action that would ensure a smoother divorce later. She hadn’t expected Si Chen to not only refrain from hitting her, but also give her a wad of money.
What on Earth was happening?
The situation was so contrary to her expectations that she didn’t know how to respond.
"Where...where did you get all this money from?"
This had to be at least two to three hundred!
"I borrowed it from Dr. Ou from the oral care department for his marriage, and he just repaid it today," Si Chen explained with a slight smile, "I didn’t consider your needs enough yesterday. I had no idea an electric fan would cost so much."
Si Chen rarely went shopping or bought electrical appliances like fans, and therefore wasn’t aware of the prices. He had assumed that an electric fan would only cost around thirty to forty yuan. He wasn’t aware that Tong Yao would sell kitchen utensils either. When he was at university in Kyoto, Tong Yaohui often mentioned his daughter to him, always with a fond tone lamenting that she was spoiled and didn’t know how to do any housework as a grown woman.
