Chapter 1548 - Chapter 1548 Chapter 1548 Doubts Sprout in Heart

Chapter 1548: Chapter 1548: Doubts Sprout in Heart Chapter 1548: Chapter 1548: Doubts Sprout in Heart Quinn Powell had gleaned information about the Mamet family, Caleb Mamet was a man of indifference, but he was completely filial to Madam Mamet. Given Caleb’s status at present, he had only one grandmother, but he could have many wives. There was no need for him to sever ties with his own grandmother for the sake of Xaviera Evans.

Once Xaviera was without Caleb’s protection, she would be like a drowned dog, pounced upon and kicked by everyone.

Even without evidence to prove that the car accident was orchestrated by Xaviera, once the seeds of doubt were sown, suspicions would sprout in everyone’s heart. Madam Mamet would once and for all, surely grow to loathe Xaviera!

Thinking of this, a sly smile curled up at the corner of Quinn’s mouth.

“Miss Powell, Xaviera didn’t push you into the water because you saved me.” Just as Quinn was relishing her vanity, an elderly but authoritative voice echoed from the doorway.

Madam Mamet was seated in a wheelchair, emanating an extraordinarily powerful aura. Her incisive gaze as sharp as a knife rested directly on Quinn and was completely contrary to what Quinn had anticipated.

“Miss Powell, I know Xaviera very well, she’s filial and our relationship is quite good too. She must’ve pushed you into the water only after you provoked her.”

Madam Mamet voiced this with an unwavering conviction, and it swept away every ounce of Quinn’s smugness.

Why? Even though she was Madam Mamet’s lifesaver, why was she the one being suspected in front of everyone?

The expression on Quinn’s face distorted uncontrollably, what exactly was the old hag implying? Despite risking her life to save Madam Mamet, was the latter actually advocating for Xaviera?

Moreover, the argument she had put forth just now was reasonable, so why didn’t Madam Mamet harbor any suspicions towards Xaviera at all?

After all, the person pushed into the water was her, the one who had to endure the chilly water was her, but in the end, the one suspected was still her. Why were they all advocating for Xaviera?

At the corner, Xaviera slowly lifted her eyes and smirked at Quinn with a provocative smile.

She had already pointed out that not everybody was as naive as Jacob Powell. Five years ago, Quinn had tried to drive a wedge between her and Jacob by resorting to suicide, but Yigol Mamet, Mrs. Mamet, and Caleb Mamet wouldn’t be tricked so easily.

They considered her a part of their family and comprehended her character incredibly well, so how could they believe Quinn’s words?

Caleb happened to glance at Xaviera. Ever since Quinn had shown up, she had been standing there with an indifferent expression, devoid of any panic and left him entirely convinced that if Xaviera dared to push Quinn into the water, she must’ve had the absolute confidence of not being at a disadvantage.

Quinn thought that merely tormenting herself would be enough to accuse Xaviera. Very soon, she would realize that she had shot herself in the foot!

Amid the ensuing silence, Madam Mamet spoke again, this time more sternly than before, “Miss Powell, what did you say to Xaviera?”

Everyone held their breaths in anticipation as they waited for Quinn to respond.

As the senior-most member of the Mamet family, once Madam Mamet had posed a question, even if Quinn was her life savior, she was obliged to answer. Her delay in doing so was a clear indication that she was flustered.

Seeing the icy look in Madam Mamet’s eyes, Quinn shuddered in fear. Her eyes welled up with tears, and in an ominously pitiful voice, she started, “Mrs. Mamet, there were some misunderstandings between Mrs. Mamet and I. Actually, I attended this banquet intending to explain and apologize in person, and plead for her forgiveness. But, before I could say anything, she pushed me into the water.”

“Even if I said something that Mrs. Mamet wouldn’t like to hear, she shouldn’t have pushed me into the water. I can’t swim, I nearly drowned.”

Quinn had raised this point before, and now she repeated it yet again in front of Madam Mamet with the sole purpose of making everybody realize that Xaviera was indeed a plotter!
