A loud noise echoed as the ruby necklace shattered, Fiona’s smile freezing immediately.
Complete silence ensued, they couldn’t believe their eyes; Fiona’s necklace was shattered by Jones!
Why would this happen?
When everyone was too shocked to speak, Xaviera broke the silence, ‘I just wanted to remind Miss Reiser that it’s quite embarrassing to have one’s necklace shattered in public. So, I wanted to offer you a chance to back out, but too bad you didn’t appreciate it.’
Following these words, Fiona’s face turned ghastly, as if she had swallowed a fly. Despite her years of pretence, she couldn’t help feel angered at the sight of her painstakingly acquired ruby necklace shattered.
Everybody saw both women removing their necklaces. Xaviera placed hers on the left, Fiona on the right. The shattered necklace was the one on the right and this scene had happened before everyone’s eyes. Xaviera had no chance to fake it, so Fiona’s necklace was a counterfeit.
