Caleb Mamet’s expression was mild. Those deep eyes met Xaviera’s shocked gaze, and he looked at her, neither smiling nor frowning, silent.
The surroundings were scary quiet, leaving Xaviera with a sense of hopeless despair.
The middle-aged woman and her son backed off cautiously. They knew very well how ruthless Caleb was, hence they only dared to badmouth him behind his back. If Caleb had heard what they just said, they knew they would meet a gruesome end.
From the very moment Caleb showed up, they were frightened to the bone, feeling as if someone was choking them, they couldn’t say a single word.
“Take them away,” ordered Caleb. Immediately, a few strong bodyguards appeared and dragged the limp duo away, leaving only Xaviera and Caleb.
Caleb turned back around, still staring intently at Xaviera. With a teasing grin, he said, “Was Mrs. Mamet pretending to be a ghost to scare them just now?”
Xaviera’s lips twitched slightly.
It’s over. Her facade was gone.
Xaviera followed Caleb back to Caleb Manor. Once they stepped inside, Caleb casually said, “Turns out, Mrs. Mamet cares so much about me. You knew they were bad-mouthing me behind my back and stepped up for me. You despise them that much?”
Xaviera nodded. Of course, she despised them for targeting Caleb who was clearly outstanding and innocent; yet subjected to malicious rumors and slanders.
After a silence, Caleb gently said, “The ones Mrs. Mamet despises, will never appear before you again.”
That evening, Xaviera received news of a bombshell- Caleb’s Uncle Drew and his family had unexpectedly left a day before the ancestor grave visiting. Boyd Drew made an excuse to everyone: Caleb’s aunt had fallen suddenly ill, hence the family had to leave early.
Meanwhile, inside the Drew Main Manor.
Vivian Drew furiously smashed her hand on the desk, hollering, “They actually left? This is how he repays us for making him the CEO? That bastard is still living in Caleb Manor, and he just sneaks away like a coward. Useless!”
“They’ve already left, what’s the point in getting angry now?” Boyd Drew cut in impatiently, speaking flippantly, “They are just a group of insignificant people, they don’t matter to us. Let them leave, the main focus now is how to deal with Caleb Mamet.”
Vivian Drew’s anger gradually subsided, she whispered, “Boyd, can we really prevent Caleb from entering the cemetery tomorrow?”
