Chapter 845: Disposing of Stolen Goods
"Yes, it’s a brand-new mode of collaboration," Chu Liang said.
"It’s certainly a novel idea, but I’ve never encountered anything like it before," Elder Yin replied with some difficulty. "If Young Hero Chu had asked us to merge into the Mount Shu Sect, that might’ve been acceptable. But this... this is an acquisition. We’re not a merchant guild—how does one even purchase a sect?"
Chu Liang had expected this response. After all, it wasn’t the first time he had been asked this question. Back then, both Huan Leisheng and Hong Jufeng had expressed the same confusion.
It was actually quite simple. From a profit-driven perspective, any sect—whether it was a small one like the former Talismanic Sect, a mid-sized one like the Sun and Moon Pavilion, or even a large one like Starhold Island—would gladly jump at the chance to join one of the Divine Nine.
If they had been able to join one of the Divine Nine from the start, neither the sect leaders nor their disciples would have ended up in places like this. But from the Mount Shu Sect’s perspective, there was never any need to seek them out in the first place.
As one of the Divine Nine, the resources the Mount Shu Sect provided to its disciples far exceeded those of ordinary sects. Taking in a new batch of disciples would lead to a sharp increase in resource consumption and their talent would inevitably fall short of the Divine Nine’s standards, resulting in significant waste.
Moreover, the larger the sect, the heavier the burden it had to bear. With disciples of mixed quality, problems were bound to arise. In immortal sects, quality mattered far more than quantity. An increase in numbers didn’t equate to improvement. The Heavenly Star Divine Cult was proof of this. Despite its immense power, the growing number of mouths to feed had sharply increased its resource demands, and its inability to sustain that burden became the primary reason for its eventual split.
It was with these considerations in mind that Chu Liang came up with the idea of an acquisition.
The proposal of an acquisition essentially conveyed that the sect had great potential, but there was no need for it to merge with the Mount Shu Sect. The Mount Shu Sect could offer some support upfront while the sect would simply return a portion of their profits in the future. It was a straightforward profit-sharing relationship, similar to an alliance with a superior and subordinate dynamic, while both sides remained independent entities.
Of course, when it comes to matters of critical importance, the Mount Shu Sect would definitely have to take over some control.
"So that’s how it is," Elder Yin said with a nod of understanding.
