Chapter 57: An Empire Without The North, and The South, and East?
Acantha looked at her father when they arrived at their own home. They went straight to his office, and she sat in one of the chairs.
"Father, isn’t it impulsive to say those words to the Empress? And what about the Emperor? Isn’t he one of your closest friends?" Acantha said to her father as the latter poured some wine on his glass that was on his table.
"That wasn’t impulsive; I knew them when we were kids; Helena was even your mother’s closest friend, as the Klartis family rarely attends any ball." The duke said as he sipped on his glass.
"Besides, I don’t want her to treat you like that; you are a Solaris, as well as a Klartis, you came from; I just don’t like the way she insulted you just to favor the Abellardes. Now let us see how the Empire stands without our support," he said as he looked at his glass and played with the wine.
Acantha just shook her head to her father; it seems like the duke was angry at the Empress at the moment, but she thinks it was just petty, and besides, she can handle herself well.
Now, she was thinking what might happen if both houses were out of the empire’s grasp; she knew her father wouldn’t just be the south and the north; she was sure he would also make them lose the east, which his family owned a big territory too.
"The empress won’t stop siding with the Abellarde’s unless someone’s going to show her their true intentions, and besides, you don’t have to be worried about the emperor. " Her father continued.
"If we won’t stop them from leeching of the Imperial family," the duke said as he looked at her this time with anger in his eyes.
Acantha sighed; she knew about the Abellarde’s skeleton’s in their closet. "I just don’t want the people in this place to feel any suffering because of this," Acantha said as she looked at her father sadly.
"You don’t have to worry about that, trust me." Her father said as he looked at her tenderly.
