Crusader King

Chapter 48: Lone temple(2)

Each of the five walls of the temple had one of these paintings as previously mentioned, the black, stone door through which Cades had entered had a painting on the other side of the door as well, there were of course also countless smaller ones but mainly there were five great paintings each seemingly depicting a legendary story within simple colours.

From the rectangle-formed altar that was faced towards the door one could easily orientate and so he did, starting with the right wall from, next to the door from which Cades had entered the surprisingly big temple.

There, on the ancient walls there was a small figure of a mage in what seemed to be a violet robe, she or he wore a typical witches hat and was surrounded by multiple crudely drawn hands that seemingly reached for her, this picture was the greatest and in the very middle of everything but the witch seemed to be surrounded by various square ceilings that were clad in various windows and seemed to be grey, of the same colour as the ancient stone temple.

Various different pictures of the figure that seemed rather female were surrounding the central picture, they depicted her in various different situations, in one she was being hunted by the people, in another she was praying to the gods, in another she was glowing in a golden light and received help, in another she was a priestess with the very same hat, probably used to differentiate her from the other priestesses, all clad in the same white robes with yellowish ornaments on them that were in all likelihood once meant to resemble gold, in the next picture of the circular sequence there was just a stone depicted.

Cades had some idea of what this could mean, it was pretty obvious after all, she received help from the gods after being hunted by someone or something, probably a great amount of those beings, whatever or whoever they might've been.

Surrounding the walls on this side were various paintings of those following the gods, clad in various different clothes, in black, grey, yellow, red, blue, white and so many more, they weren't detailed at all but there was one colour that didn't repeat itself from the previous picture, violet.

The wall on the other side of the door on the other hand was depicting practically the opposite, in the middle of the circular sequence that was almost the same as with the picture of the witch, was a man in silver armor that was surrounded by a violet aure, similarly to the witch.

Purple seemed to be a theme.

On the side there was a mighty silver dragon sleeping in a cavern, then he was depicted as destroying a village, then a yellow hero was depicted as clashing with the dragon, then the mighty silver dragon laid on the ground and then, lastly, there laid a fleshy, pink thing on the ground which was probably supposed to resemble the corpse of the dragon.

Cades wasn't too sure about who the man in the middle was, maybe it was the hero but the hero was clad in yellow armor or maybe, Cades thought, it was the dragon in a human form.

But rather than that the most interesting fact was that this wall was dressed with thousands of rudimentary illustrations of thousands of different monsters, there were various ones he knew, but overall most of them he didn't have any idea about.
