Chapter 44: Who Cares?
Eve, who’d been sitting in Malakai’s chair at his desk since he left the office, clicked rapidly on the keyboard of his computer. She typed out a bunch of code on the computer and picked up the paper she had by the side, scribbling into it with intense focus.
She didn’t even notice when Malakai walked into the office, closing the door. He paused on his step and slanted his head as he began staring at her.
He really missed the glasses, which he barely sees on her face now since she got her contact lenses.
Eve yawned and scratched into her hair before continuing from where she stopped, still yet to notice him. She reached for his cup of coffee he’d left half-drunk on the table before he went for his meeting. His gaze followed her movement as her lips wrapped the cup and she took a sip.
Eve shriveled up instantly at the bitterness and her face crinkled. Nonetheless, she never kept the coffee back. If anything, she took another sip and the chuckle he couldn’t hold back was what snapped her attention to him.
She seemed surprised to see him.
"Malakai?" She kept the cup back on the table. "How long have you been there?"
"Long enough to watch you pick up my coffee," he said as he approached her and walked over to stand behind her. He leaned down, enough that he could loom above her and stare at what she had on the screen of the computer.
"What are you doing?"
Eve blinked and swallowed, breathing out a soft breath at the feel of his hot breath fanning against the exposed skin of her ears and shoulder. "I..well I..." She shivered slightly as his breathing poured down her neck but she shook her head, unwilling to dwell on the awareness.
"I made a code for your company’s security."
"My company’s security?"
