Chapter 39: She’s Your Mate
"He’s partially out of danger for now, Mr. Basti," the doctor, an alpha, said to Caius who had his gaze on Yuri who was unconscious on the bed. "We’ll have to monitor him to see how things go."
"When is he going to wake up?" he asked.
The doctor went silent.
Caius’s hands balled by his sides and so did the veins at his neck pop. "I asked, when is he going to wake up?"
"I don’t...know. But we are hoping that he will," the doctor tried to mellow his words as much as he could. "Mr. Basti, he got shot in his chest, specifically in his heart. It’s already a miracle that he survived it. A shot at the heart barely has a survival rate, his heart bled a lot, he lost a lot of blood, so let’s be happy a little bit that he’s still breathing."
He added, "I don’t know when he will wake up from his coma. It could take a month or more, but at least he’s breathing. That means there is a chance."
Caius stared at him and slowly shifted his gaze to Yuri. He had so many tubes connected to him, the man looked so pitiful and he hated to see him in such a condition.
He didn’t respond to the doctor but instead turned and left the ward, shutting the door behind him.
He stormed his way down the hallway and halted at the bench where both Malakai and Eve were seated, asleep with her head resting against his shoulder. It was past ten p.m. after all.
He ran his fingers through his hair and walked off.
The next place he found himself was at the rooftop of the hospital where he stood staring into nothing. He was angry, but he didn’t even know who at.
A soft breath fled his nose and he walked to the edge and sat down, his legs hanging out. He took out the pack of cigarettes he’d grabbed and just before he could light it, a voice startled him to a stop.
