Chapter 51: Resolution
His words were filled with absolute resolution. Power? Glory? Strength? Infinite food? He wanted it all. And he wanted his sister to witness everything.
Without even realizing it, he was building on his ambition.
His voice and tone were that of finality, but when Kivara heard it, she began to laugh, so hard that she gripped her stomach as she laughed.
Riven frowned, and a glint appeared in his eyes. "What? You think I can’t have it?" His tone was low and sharp like an assassin’s weapon.
Kivara stopped laughing and shook her head. "Ah, Riven. You can have it, but isn’t your dream too small?"
The tightening of Riven’s muscles disappeared as he stared at her in surprise. Of everything that he expected, he never thought that she would say something like that. "Too small? That city is so big!"
Kivara patted him on the shoulder. "I agree that it’s impressive, but this is only a minor sect, just a step above small sects. This is nothing, Riven. This sect is like a grain before a big storage. And this is Wild Province. We are not even properly in the Old West yet.
You must aim higher. Why do you want to rule over something this small? If you must eat poison, then why not eat the one that’s the most poisonous? One that will kill swiftly and quickly!"
Riven grimaced. Why does she give that kind of analogy? But his heart was stirred. All his life, he’d been the runt. His dream had been to survive in the village by being a practitioner and be able to provide enough food for his family.
But all that had changed. He wanted more. To bring his sister back and to look down from the top. What Kivara said was the truth. If you must do something, then do it to the utmost.
