Chapter 2831: Acting
The refining lasted for about half a day, and the sky gradually darkened.
When a crisp bell rang, all the refiners took a deep breath and stopped their refining actions.
"Ah, I’m exhausted. Finally, we can rest."
"Yeah, refining all day long makes my bones ache."
"It’s almost done. The altar is about to be completed, and our mission is nearly over. Once the teleportation array is activated, our task will be considered accomplished. Each of us will have made a great contribution and receive substantial rewards, hehe..."
"Let’s go drink, have a little wine to sleep well."
"Let’s go!"
The artifact refiners casually chatted as they walked out in small groups.
Carson Flores was thinking about what he should do next. The refiner in front of him turned his head and called out, "Demon, want to join us?"
Carson, not knowing where to go, did not hesitate to nod.
Carson remained silent, as speaking in a suppressed voice could easily reveal his identity.
The refiner saw Carson nodding and didn’t mind, getting up to walk outside.
Carson followed closely, silently trailing behind.
The two left the tent and arrived at the camp’s center, a large building resembling a dining hall or tavern. Large tables were set up, and many black-robed men sat around them, drinking or playing something similar to cards, occasionally causing loud commotion.
Carson quickly scanned the room and breathed a sigh of relief.
Although these people were all quite powerful, they didn’t seem any different from ordinary people.
After a day of hard work, having drinks with a few friends in the tavern, playing cards, and relaxing, they could sleep well and be ready for another day of toil.
However, the fact that so many powerful immortals and even Great Land Immortals were hidden in the Red River Mountains, establishing the Mist World and an altar for teleportation, suggested that the forces behind these people were clearly not simple.
Now the most important thing is to understand two things: first, their background, and second, the purpose of building the altar and arranging the teleportation.
Carson was curious, but not too curious.
For the Bitter Sea Immortal Domain, he was just a passerby. He came to the Red River Mountains simply to search for the Leap Void Beast; other matters were of no concern to him, so he didn’t necessarily need to understand everything happening here.
He only needed to obtain the Leap Void Beast’s antler and leave safely to achieve his goal.
A few refiners sat at a table, someone took out fine wine and food, and they started drinking.
The black-robed hooded spell was very concealing, even while drinking and eating, one’s face could be completely hidden. The downside was that Carson couldn’t see these people, but the upside was that they couldn’t see Carson either.
The artifact refiners began to chat idly, Carson holding a cup of wine, remaining silent, and listening carefully.
Carson wanted to figure out their background and purpose from their conversation, but after listening for a while, he heard only a refiner’s love history and another refiner’s unrequited love story.
It seemed that no matter where you are, whatever your identity, strength, or status, men are always men with no difference.
Just when Carson considered whether to take the initiative to steer the conversation, the refiner in front of him suddenly turned with some confusion and asked, "You usually talk a lot, why not a word today?"
Carson’s heart jumped, he pretended to sigh deeply, casually waved his hand, then picked up his cup and took a big sip.
Carson didn’t say a word, but managed to convey, "I’m troubled, don’t want to talk, you guys chat," very clearly.
A refiner across the table laughed: "What’s up, heard us talking about women, thinking about that beautiful widow of yours again?"
Since someone offered him an out, Carson naturally played along and nodded.
That refiner laughed: "Even if she’s a widow, she’s the general’s sister, noble, and so beautiful, with many suitors. Winning her over won’t be so easy for you."
The refiner allied with Carson comforted him: "At such a young age, having such prowess, you could be considered a gifted one, but without a strong background, you can’t compare with those second-generation disciples."
"Our family values military merit; if you achieve a feat this time, you might be rewarded with a title. Combined with your potential, it might not be impossible."
Everyone’s attention was on Carson; if he spoke now, he would easily be discovered since this group was familiar with each other.
Carson sighed and, with everyone watching him, stood up, raised his cup, drank all the wine in one gulp, set the cup down, pointed outside, and naturally walked out.
Seeing this, everyone exchanged glances and laughed.
"Demon got triggered, huh."
"Young people, still can’t see through things, not calm enough."
"Do you think everyone treats women like playthings like you do?"
"No matter him, let’s drink!"
The few refiners didn’t think much of it and continued chatting amongst themselves, even the one allied with Carson didn’t think twice.
Carson walked out of the large building and looked at the altar amidst the twilight.
No more delaying.
It’s time to act.
