"Carson, once you leave the mountain, where do you plan to go?"
With a smile, Carson answered, "I’ll see how things are. Maybe back to West Capital, maybe back to Seashore... What about you, will you keep up with your old trade?"
Apart from training, the two occasionally chatted and became quite familiar with each other.
Lilly’s face turned awkward: "I had no choice before, and I just couldn’t bring myself to harm the poor... Now that my master’s illness can be cured, and you’ve given so much money to support the orphanage, I naturally won’t do those things anymore. I’m aware that if I encounter a tough spot, I could easily lose my life, or even suffer a fate worse than death."
Carson chuckled: "Now that you’re already a Grandmaster, you can make money doing pretty much anything."
Lilly curiously asked, "How can a Grandmaster make money though?"
Carson replied offhandedly: "The use of martial force comes down to two things, destruction and protection. You can either be the destroyer, as an assassin or enforcer, or the protector, as a bodyguard or consultant. It comes down to what you choose."
Lilly pressed on: "I have a rough idea about assassins, determining the price based on the strength of the target to make money, and I somewhat know about bodyguards, providing safety for clients and charging by time or occurrence. Both are quite risky, but what does being a consultant mean?"
Carson explained with a laugh: "An assassin kills for money, a bodyguard trades their life for money, but a consultant is a relatively equal cooperation. Similar to ancient retainers, you serve as a consultant for a family or power, and in exchange, they provide you with money or other goods. This compensation is something you discuss yourself."
Lilly replied with a smile: "That being said, being a consultant seems pretty good."
Carson nodded: "A consultant is like a high-level executive in a company, drawing a high salary, managing big affairs, but not having to sell their life for their employer. Generally speaking, it’s about doing your best without feeling guilty."
