Carson Flores dared not move a muscle.
Each of these ugly creatures was not very big, probably only about thirty centimeters long, with sharp teeth that seemed capable of piercing through their own mouths, razor-sharp claws, and a pair of lifeless, gray-black eyes that were filled with death and were quite terrifying to behold.

Carson finally understood why the five corpses he had seen earlier had been covered in blood, yet not a trace of flesh remained on them; obviously, all the flesh had entered the bellies of these creatures the instant the cultivators were killed.
Carson, completely surrounded, had nothing but hope that these creatures were afraid of fire.
Suddenly, one of the creatures flapped its wings and flew up, lunging at Carson.
Carson’s heart sank, and he stepped back, pressing against the wall. With a palm strike, he killed the creature in an instant.
In the next second, numerous creatures took flight, and many of them lunged toward Carson.
