Reinhart hadn’t underestimated the spirits. There was no way he could.
Even Olivia had not been able to withstand possession by those vengeful spirits, so he didn’t think he could endure it either. He knew that his actions were reckless. However, he had no choice. If it grew any larger, the swarm of spirits would become an uncontrollable problem.
If they were able to take control of Olivia, they could dominate anyone.

Starlight could not illuminate the world. As the moonlight grew more distant and failed to illuminate the world of the self, he felt himself also growing distant, as if he himself was being swallowed by darkness and disappearing.
Since they had entered his soul and his mind, Reinhart could feel their anger and hatred not on his skin, but in his soul.
He could never know the names or identities of each spirit that made up this enormous mass. However, the brutal and despairing images that passed through him were polluting his mind.
A mental nausea, or perhaps a form of retching, was rising—a chilling sensation that dominated his soul and pulled him into the abyss.
