There were too many monsters, and they were too strong. That operation cost the lives of two Swordmasters from Shanapell and four mages from the Imperial Mage Corps. Such powerful combatants were not easily replenished, making it a painfully significant loss.
Master-level combatants were not easily replaced. Any loss of personnel in the strike forces led by Tana resulted in a permanent loss of strength.
The gates were becoming more dangerous, while the strength of the strike forces continued to diminish.
