For Shinichi–who worked as an undercover in the Akatsuki Organization for more than a decade–Rinnegan is the worst nightmare. He can’t even count the times he had those horrifying dreams of tragically dying at the hands of Nagato after his undercover identity gets exposed. In all those dreams, the last thing he would see before waking up covered in sweat would be Nagato’s indifferent eyes. That lavender color and ripple patterns are no less than a nightmare for him!
This is why, when he saw the same color and pattern in Karin’s eyes, he was so taken aback, and asked such absurd questions, ‘Are you Nagato? No… you can’t be Nagato… are you one of his Pain?’
Samsara was stunned, “Huh?” She did not know who is Nagato and who are his Pain, therefore, she did not know how to respond to Shinichi’s questions.
Shisui and Itachi looked suspiciously at Samsara. Although neither of the two joined the Akatsuki unlike Shinichi, they have also seen the Rinnegan from a distance during the several confrontations between Konoha and Akatsuki and Amatsukami and Akatsuki, therefore, both of them know what Nagato’s Rinnegan looks like.
So, when they noticed the pair of Rinnegan in Samsara’s eyes, they were no less surprised than Shinichi. Of course, unlike Shinichi, neither of the two thought that Samsara was Nagato or any of his Pain, they didn’t think Nagato would be able to accomplish such a feat in Kuroto’s presence, not to mention Kuroto introduced Samsara to the three of them, so, it’s obvious that the person is not at all related to Nagato… but still, the fact that Samsara has Rinnegan still stunned them.
Kuroto chuckled at Shinichi’s reaction, and assured him, “Don’t worry… Samsara is not Nagato, nor is she any of his Pain.”
