The Tycoon God of Online Gaming

Chapter 280 - 281: Bizarre Spoils of War and Education

System: Please check the remaining capacity of your space backpack, you will be receiving an ample amount of loot!

The reason Chu You decided not to take over the town was because firstly, he hadn’t had the opportunity to experience what it was like to sack a town and wanted to try something new. Secondly, looting the town would mean obtaining maximum benefits in a short amount of time, but it would cause irreversible damage to the town ecosystem; if he conquered the town, he would have daily income, but the earnings would depend on the development of the town. But there is no faster way to make money than looting. Thirdly, his Battle Demonesses needed to kill NPCs to increase their morale, which was very important. High morale could multiply the damage dealt by the Battle Demonesses and this was also something that any competent commander could not afford to ignore.

Finally, if he were to take over the town, what would happen to his Hell Demon Power? The Hell Demon Camp is considered a major enemy by the Celestial World’s ten-thousands of clans. As such, any association with the Hell Clan is highly frowned upon. So, if he simply took over, his efforts to nurture the demons would expose him to the Yan Kingdom Court. As a result, he would fall out with the official NPCs which would not be a wise move given that he still had a lot of level 15 gear and his future development would be greatly constrained. These are all reasons why Chu You’s refusal to accept the enemy’s surrender was entirely reasonable.

Guard NPCs generally will not drop equipment. This is a protective measure designed to avoid putting players in direct opposition to the official NPC forces too early on. So what is the benefit of killing NPCs?

The saying goes, to kill one is a crime, but to massacre a thousand is a heroic act! Wiping out a town of living Guard NPCs will cause the town to surrender to the player, delivering all its wealth straight into the player’s pocket. This is theoretically possible, but in practice, many factors can affect the town’s wealth.

Firstly, Chu You is not a Hero NPC. He doesn’t possess the ability to master war looting skills, and hence the resources he gains from pillaging a town are significantly reduced. Didn’t you see how much wealth was burned by the Battle Demonesses? They can’t distinguish which resource shops are important to their master, and their spoils entirely depend on their mood at the moment. If the Demonesses think an item might please their master, they take it. Everything else ends up either scattered on the ground or burned away. If these discarded items have equipment attributes, then they face the merciless fate of being refreshed and erased by the System...

Why didn’t Chu You command in person? Once players command their forces to loot, their troops will enter a frenzied state of pillaging, during which it’s hard to effectively command them. But if a Hero NPC with either the ’Biological Warfare Specialty’ or ’Biological Leadership Specialty’ was the commander, the situation would be much better controlled.

One more point is that Chu You’s way of leading was influenced by his past life, where commanders generally stayed behind the scenes. If someone decapitated him, it would be a huge blow! His entire army would be thrown into a panic and eventually retreat, with 50% of the troops fleeing back to the player’s lair.

If the leader dies, and there’s no one left to lead, what’s the point of playing!

Pretty much, once Chu You had thrown his 40 Battle Demonesses into the battlefield, he had no control! Everything depended on the Battle Demonesses’ initiative. As T9 mutated creatures, their initiative reached 80%, and they had their own intelligent judgement of the battlefield.

Surely there was something the player-commander could do? Of course, there were three options that could affect the entire army.
