Tathagata laughed and said, "You Rowdy Monkey, instead of escorting Tang Sanzang to the Western Heaven to fetch the scriptures, what are you doing here in the Da Xiong Palace?"
Wukong then said, "I have caused a great calamity and went to seek help from Bodhisattva Guanyin, but Bodhisattva Guanyin also had no solution, so she had to bring me to Mount Meru to seek help from you, Ancient Buddha!"
The corners of Tathagata’s mouth twitched slightly as he said, "I do not know what kind of great calamity it is; tell me about it."
Wukong said, "Zhen Yuanzi’s two disciples, Qingfeng and Mingyue, these two Children are not at all honest. Their words are sharp and harsh, which provoked me, Old Sun, and in a fit of anger, I pushed over the pepino fruit tree and gave those two Children a sound beating. At that moment, Zhen Yuanzi descended from the heavens, and with a single move of ’Universe in the Sleeve,’ he captured me and them, leaving us unable to escape, and then we were confined in a room."
Tathagata angrily said, "You Rowdy Monkey, that pepino fruit tree is a Spirit Root of Heaven and Earth, yet you knocked it over and killed it; how do you expect me to revive it? Speak and let me hear!"
"Ancient Buddha, calm your anger, please do not harbor resentment! Ancient Buddha, with your vast divine skills and boundless Buddhist Law, there are naturally ways to resurrect the dead. I, your disciple, also desire True Fruition, all relying on Tang Sanzang leading me to the Western Heaven to fetch the true scriptures! Ancient Buddha, please think of a method quickly to revive the pepino fruit tree, so I can soon accompany Tang Sanzang to the Western Heaven to fetch your true scriptures and become a Bodhisattva or a Buddha," Wukong said with a sly grin.
Although Tathagata was angry in his heart, more than that he felt helpless. He shook his head and asked the All Buddhas around him, "Do any of you have a method to revive Zhen Yuanzi the Great Immortal’s pepino fruit tree?"
