Chapter 250: Black Dog Street
The roads in the Walled City district were incredibly narrow. Cars occasionally squeezed past each other bumper to bumper, but this time it was far too close. A gray pickup truck overtook them from behind, nearly slamming into the black Off-Road Vehicle.
Lorna, a cigarette clamped between her lips, laid on the horn and hollered at the passing pickup:
"Motherfucker! Do you even know how to drive, you stupid fuck?!"
Gu He sat in the passenger seat, while Elizabeth and Angie were in the back. The blast of the horn left their ears ringing.
Earlier, Gu He had taken Angie to the Home of Red Rain to see the children there, and Elizabeth had already been won over by Lorna. In truth, Elizabeth had never been to the mud-ponds either; she was hardly any more experienced than Angie in that regard.
They rode in the Off-Road Vehicle, trailed discreetly by two security cars.
Angie pulled her gaze away from Lorna and looked back out the window at the building-choked streets outside the Walled City.
"Around here, everyone lives in a space about the size of your bed," Lorna said, taking a drag of her cigarette.
Gu He couldn't do anything about it. Lorna hadn't exactly been friendly to Angie the whole ride.
