Gu He parked Jane's old-fashioned bicycle in the alley outside the Fishpond. He called Xing Tong, Mike, and the others over to play in the alley and keep an eye on the bike. It absolutely could not be stolen.
This thing possessed intense Wondrous Item Potential. If someone stole it and sold it for scrap metal, the loss would be catastrophic.
"Don't worry, Boss, we'll guard it!" Xing Tong waved a small fist. "Anyone tries to steal it, we'll beat 'em up."

He walked into the Fishpond. A few patrons sat at the bar, drinking and chatting, while Old Fan stood behind the counter, tossing food in a wok with a wooden-handled stainless steel spatula. It sizzled loudly.
Unlike Eastern Land cooking, the stir-fries at a Japanese-style izakaya didn't have many elaborate variations. Old Fan was simply tossing some beef with bean sprouts. The flavor wasn't heavy, but it was perfect bar food.
Gu He didn't spot any familiar faces. After greeting the few patrons, his gaze swept through the izakaya, extending his senses to search.
The Wooden-Box Television? No. The wall paintings, the liquor sets? Neither. But that sofa—a faint glow flickered in and out of existence...
