Night Hacker

Chapter 173: We're Back

After three days of bouncing along broken wilderness roads, the two vehicles entered the borders of Liuguang City.

They hadn't reentered the city directly through the Freight District. Instead, they took a massive detour to the southwest, almost reaching the irradiated wasteland of the Bloodline District.

If anyone asked where they had been, the cover story was simple: they had gone to the Bloodline District to hunt Mutants for fun.

Veering away from the edge of the Bloodline District, the Off-Road Vehicle and the pickup truck drove into the Pharaoh District, then crossed over into the Kabukicho area.

The night sky was starless and slick with rain. The glowing neon streets they hadn't seen in over a month stretched out before them.

Traffic flowed through the bustling streets. Dense high-rises towered on both sides, plastered with giant neon signs and dazzling lights. Massive electronic screens flashed with shifting images, interspersed with traditional lanterns and hanging banners.

Crowds of pedestrians in eclectic outfits hurried across a pale crosswalk like a procession of ghosts. They huddled under black Yakuza umbrellas or trendy clear plastic ones, hurrying past under the feigned watchful eyes of the Metropolitan Police Department's motorcycle officers.

The night rain splattered against the umbrellas, sending up drops of water that the wind carried away.

"Ah, Kabukicho," Sakai Huaqing sighed wistfully. "The wilderness was amazing, but I still love Kabukicho."
