Night Hacker

Chapter 170: Night of the Blood Drinkers

Ghost Girl had been to many awful places, but this was the first time she had smelled a stench this vile.

Faint moonlight shone down on her. Even though she had always lacked vitality and felt a closer kinship to dead things, she nearly vomited on the spot.

This was not the scent of death, nor could it even be called a breeze. It was an overwhelming stench—a mix of countless micro-particles of industrial pollution and the river's sludge-churned moisture, mirroring the pitch-black, viscous, knee-deep water itself.

Programmers and the Gifted alike found it unbearable.

Thanks to pollution from the Eastern Industrial Zone, most of the rivers in River Township District had ended up like this.

The trees lining both banks were withering away, leaving only a few patches of wild grass to poke their heads through the black mud.

"Blargh..." Nearby, a squad member from the Assassin Profession System couldn't hold it in and vomited. Fresh filth splattered across the river's surface, making the air even worse.

His retching made the rest of the team struggle to keep their own stomachs down.

"Put on your gas masks if you can't take it," Vic Sterling said. He wasn't wearing one himself.
