Chapter 146: The Wilderness Calls
Early morning in the wilderness brought the sound of birdsong—a rare treat compared to the city—and the air carried the faint, fragrant scent of damp earth.
Gu He woke up in a small tent. Last night's bonfire party had dragged on until midnight, so he had probably only managed a few hours of sleep.
He rubbed his bleary eyes, grabbed his duffel bag, and stepped out of the tent. The camp was equipped with portable shower stalls and restrooms, so in terms of hygiene, they hadn't quite regressed to the level of savages.
Even this early in the morning, the camp was already bustling. The pile of firewood in the center of the grounds was still emitting wisps of smoke.
When the members of the Revival Society saw Gu He, they smiled and called out greetings, with some of the women maintaining their fiery enthusiasm from the night before.
A few children skipped along behind him, asking if it was fun hugging Miss Chiba and flying up into the sky.
"It was fun," Gu He replied to them all. "Just exhausting."
Even if his courage wasn't spent, his arms certainly were from holding on so tightly. His muscles still felt a bit weak and sore.
The Revival Pioneer Society was a tribe that valued freedom, possessing an artist's sensibility and looseness. Everyone was a freeman, so there wasn't a rigid hierarchy of superiors and subordinates. The tribe's leaders were simply called "troupe leaders" because the Revival Society had originally been a society of Actors.
