Chapter 144: Two Kinds of Life
When Elizabeth strode into the banquet hall in a street-style blue denim jacket, a mismatched flannel shirt, and black leather pants, an Electronic Longsword in hand, she instantly became the center of attention.
The crowd, dressed in luxurious garden style evening wear, turned to look at her. Their smiling faces made it seem like they were watching a special performance.
This was the Muse Museum in the Garden District, and tonight, the Bank was hosting a Wondrous Item auction.
The so-called Wondrous Item auction meant that the pieces up for bid were related to Wondrous Items, Mutants, and ruin artifacts.
Elizabeth had received an invitation. Hoping to find some news regarding the source code, she decided to attend.
"I don't drink. Don't worry about me." She waved off a waiter's tray of red wine and cocktails, entirely unbothered by the surrounding gazes that seemed to say, What a rebel.
She was now a licensed Hero with the permission of the United District; she didn't need to fake a smile and give these people face.
Laughter and cheerful chatter filled the spacious banquet hall. Half the guests were young blood-eaters, including a few potential heirs. The other half were "defects" here to join the fun—they weren't extraordinaries, but they still understood how this world worked.
"Elizabeth!" a young man hurried over, his tone fawning. "You look beautiful tonight."
