Rise of The Demon General

Chapter 770. Closing In on the Enemy’s Command Center

Xou Liang led his platoon and followed Amon. Amon opened the path for them. He again turned into a flash. Everything he passed by was cut into pieces and went up in flames soon after.

This was his new martial art. After hearing Yao Ai’s explanation regarding the efficiency of learned arts and created arts, he began thinking of a way to create new arts. This was one of the arts he had created. He used the Invisible Sky Steps and the Infinite Phantom Slash as the basis for his new art.

The new martial art utilized the speed provided by the Invisible Sky Steps and combined it with the deadliness and wide-ranged reach of the Infinite Phantom Slash. The resulting martial art enabled him to swiftly slay weak enemies in a large area. The additional result of enflaming his targets was the effect of his Moonfire Dagger. Even if his slash didn’t kill his target, they would still suffer severe burning.

Amon named his new martial art the Invisible Phantom Flash. With this art, he cleared the path ahead. Xou Liang and his men were amazed at how quickly Amon slaughtered the Cryanids.

"Keep up! We must move fast!" Amon exclaimed.

Xou Liang was speechless. Amon was the one clearing the path, but they were the ones who needed to keep up. He bellowed at his followers, "Pick up the pace, you useless dolts! Don’t shame me in front of an outsider!"

Amon didn’t go in a straight path to where he suspected the Cryanid’s command center was located. He went in a zig-zag pattern. The first reason was that he had studied the Cryanid’s formation before he entered the city. He picked the path with the least resistance. Of course, there was a chance the enemy modified its formation. That’s why he urged those following him to hurry.

The second reason was to collect more troops along the way. He had identified the scattered groups beforehand. Some were reluctant to follow him, but Xou Liang persuaded them to go along. Amon was lucky to recruit Xou Liang first. From the look of it, Xou Liang was amply respected by other faction members.

"Amon, right? I hope you are not leading us on a wild goose chase. I’m risking my reputation by vouching for you."

"I am not. Your reputation will improve once this is over," Amon told Xou Liang. "This should be the last group before we make our push."

Xou Liang looked at the group Amon indicated ahead. He became thrilled after laying eyes on the group.

"Big sister Jin Fung! I’m glad you are here," Xou Liang called.

The person he addressed was a woman who was taller than average. Her muscles were also unusually large for a woman. She fought at close range using a pair of large metal gauntlets and was in the process of pounding two Cryanid Juggernauts to a pulp. From the aura she exuded, Amon estimated she was at the Beginning Supreme Stage.

A Beginning Supreme Stage came close to the King Stage of the divine cultivation. The King Stage was slightly more powerful because it had entered a new realm, a Demigod realm. As for the Supreme Stage, it remained inside the same realm as the Fiendish Stage. Even so, it was a power near the divine cultivation’s Demigod realm.

"I thought you were assisting Mayor Ru Xou in fighting that Cryranid Hivemind," Xou Liang said.

"He has enough helpers. The city needs aid more than he does," Jin Fung responded. "Anyway, what are you doing here, bringing such a large group? Shouldn’t you be defending the Western side?"

"We are fighting a losing battle. We will be overrun before the reinforcement from Aunt Xou Yung arrives."

"So, what? You give up and want to flee?"

"Hell no! You know I will never do that! No, we will be striking the enemy’s heart directly. If we are successful, it will force these Cryanids to retreat."

"Don’t be ridiculous. The Cryanids are a mindless horde. They attack based on instincts. Even if we kill the hivemind, the other Cryanids will resume the assault as if nothing had happened."

"Our target is not the hivemind, and they will retreat if we succeed in our plan."

Jin Fung looked at Amon, who just spoken, before turning back to Xou Liang and asking, "Who the heck is this baldie?"

"Uh... He is a slayer like us. He came from Saintly Sin City. He is sure the Cryanid swarm currently attacking our city has a leader, and they will retreat once we take out this leader."

"And you believe him just like that?" Jin Fung gave Xou Liang an expression of disbelief.

"Uh..." Xou Liang didn’t feel like answering the question.

"What is the alternative? Fighting a losing battle?" Amon asked. "The longer you delay, the worse the situation will be. You can fight as you do now, and wait for the inevitable, or risk trusting me with the hope that I am right."

Jin Fung sneered at Amon. "You have a sharp mouth, stranger, but I don’t like men with sharp mouths."

"Look around you!" Amon bellowed. "You are defending an already-breached defensive line. It is a pointless struggle!"

"Tch!" It’s not that Jin Fung wasn’t aware of that. She was only discontent that a stranger appeared out of nowhere and ordered them around.

"Brother Xou Liang, let’s go. Our current number should be enough to attack the enemy’s leader. We don’t need to bring people who are too afraid to risk their lives."

"Asshole! Say that one more time!" Jin Fung grabbed Amon’s shirt threateningly.

"Hands off! Do you want to prove that you are not only a coward, but are also someone who risks the fate of this city by hindering us from saving it?"

Jin Fung shoved Amon with all her might. To her surprise, Amon didn’t tumble over as she expected him to. He balanced himself before planting his feet on the ground after flying only five meters away.

"You are not a Malicious Stage cultivator," Jin Fung uttered.

"He also has divine cultivation with a level at the Intermediate Lord stage," Xou Liang explained.

"Really?" Jin Fung asked. He was not unfamiliar with the divine cultivation level. In her estimation, Amon’s power was above the Intermediate Lord Stage for him to resist her shove to that extent.

"We are wasting time. Are you in or are you out?" Amon asked her.

"Tch! Which direction?" She asked.

"Good," Amon uttered. "We are not far from where the enemy’s leader is. It is North of here, slightly outside the city."

"Very well. Let’s go," Jin Fung uttered.

"Hold!" Amon stopped her.

"What now? Aren’t we in a hurry?" She asked in annoyance.

"We are, but we will most likely fail if we just charge over without a plan." Amon instructed the others to deal with the Cryanids in their surroundings and called the leaders of the groups he had recruited to approach. He showed them the map of this city and pointed.

"This is where we are. We have a regiment of around three thousand people here. Though there are still many pockets of battles ongoing all around us, the enemy will notice if we move toward their leader with this number. We will split into two teams. A majority will act as a diversion. The real assault team will consist of three hundred people, led by me. Slayer Jin Fung, you will lead the other team."

"Hell, no!" Jin Fung refused. "I want the Cryanid’s leader, if there is truly such a thing."

"We need a true menace to force the enemy to divert their attention. Your power is perfect for the job. With you drawing the enemy’s protection, it will enable us to hit them from behind."

"Sister Jin Fung, just go with the plan," Xou Liang persuaded.

"Tch! Whatever. Where should I go?" Jin Fung asked.

"Here." Amon pointed at another spot on the map. "Charge your way out of the city, put yourself West of this spot before turning toward it."

"That is where the Cryanid’s leader is?"

"It is, and it is heavily guarded. But if you approach, they will no doubt react. If you can fly, fly. Make yourselves as visible as possible. The rest of the team and I will stay low on the ground and sneak through a city extension here. It should give us sufficient cover to get as close as possible to the enemy’s East flank. Once they direct their fangs at your team, we will spring our attack. Is everything clear?"

Jin Fung pondered the plan briefly before saying, "You better not be wrong about this."

"I am not," Amon replied.

Jin Fung began barking orders. Though she was a slayer like most of the leaders in the group Amon had recruited, her cultivation level was the highest, so everyone listened to her. Amon told Xou Liang to follow his team. Xou Liang called several other platoons to join his to make up for the three hundred people Amon requested. Once the division was made, they split in opposite directions.
