But for a Slime

Chapter 413 - 074.10 - Preparations for a Tide in Shifting Sands

<Chapter 74 continued>

Right… my magic. Calm down… not going to hurt myse… uh… can you hur… gotta have some accidents with fireball now and again? Right? And space magic seems like… a really really good way to get hurt. Joe's nonchalant happiness of gaining space magic was evaporating rather quickly as he stood in an odd undefinable space. Yeah… this is… Joe's breathing sped up and he stepped back to the door and forced himself to stop, taking a deep calming breath then closing his eyes and doing it again. Right… monsters in the closet. Relax. All good. He reached out a hand to the side of the door and actually calmed when he felt the solidity of a wall beside the door. It wasn't so much a wall and while Joe had no concept to define what his hand was feeling, he felt comfortable with simply accepting it was a wall. It felt more like hardened space, than an actual wall, but he wasn't going to figure anything out in here, not with his natural senses in any case, and he turned back to figuring out the wall, and soon had circumnavigated the inner wall, pressing firmly on it. Huh… interesting.

Stretching his arms across got something approximating four meters and his fear fell away, replaced by a deep curiosity. His grin grew and he began popping things out of his bag space into this space, even dragging in some furniture inside, including his entire bed.

One really interesting thing was putting stuff into the storage was similar to how he entered. It simply instantaneously teleported inside. One nice thing about it, however, was all he had to do was touch the item and the door. With that, it instantly went inside and appeared in the middle of the room. When he saw that, he frowned. It should have been in the corner, or at least the wal… Joe blinked. The item instantaneously appeared in the corner, then suddenly shifted to the wall he was thinking of. Joe grinned. He immediately began imagining the piece of furniture anywhere in the room and it immediately moved there through teleportation. He added in his bed and a couple other pieces of furniture in the room and they moved when and where he wanted. He then closed the door and walked around, feeling no different at all. His grin grew. OK… that's… really cool! He even took a quick jaunt outside to the inn courtyard and deposited his bedroom outside, even starting to giggle a bit happily at the furniture just appearing in the middle of the yard. He sighed happily and filled his space back up and took it back upstairs to put it all back.

Putting it back proved to be just as easy, it appeared exactly where he intended it, but where his hand was touching. That took a bit to figure out, and ended up being quite simple. He wished it to exist in a specific place in the real world and then moved his hand closer until the object could exist as he intended and it suddenly appeared, as if from his hand. It ultimately felt more like he was punching or hitting the furniture if he pushed too fast or hard, his hand coming to a jarring stop when the piece immediately appeared.

Small pieces proved easier, immediately appearing in his hand. Seeing that, he tried to once again do what he'd done before, having weapons appear in his hand exactly as needed, but like magic bag, it came out in random and odd orientations, if always exactly in his hand. That confused him and he began trying to do that with furniture again, and it always appeared exactly in the right orientation as he intended. He began to frown with annoyance, but after a good twenty minutes of attempts, the furniture came out perfectly, but anything in his hand did not. He scowled, sighed, and moved on.

Stacker was next and proved simple but powerful and Joe was grateful to see it and that exhausted his exploration of the transporter job. It was exciting, if a bit exhausting, and he only had a few left to go so he turned to finishing up and looked at his next job: leader.
