Ch. 225 - Glenn's Bewilderment...
"...So that's why you came to me?"
Glenn muttered in a troubled tone, looking up at me from his chair.
"Yes. What do you intend to do as the headmaster?"
When I asked back, Glenn furrowed his brows in an inverted V shape, groaned, and quietly glanced behind me. There sat Jameson and Ardbeg on a single-person sofa.
"...I never expected our first meeting to take place like this, Lord Glenn."
Jameson crossed his arms and spoke in a low tone. Glenn smiled wryly and nodded.
"Indeed. I truly wished we could have met under more peaceful circumstances."
As Glenn answered while wiping cold sweat with one hand, Jameson clicked his tongue and narrowed his eyes.
"...Judging by that response, it seems the rumors are true that you rose to high nobility as a mage. A true-born noble would never give such an answer."
Saying that, Jameson shrugged and spread both arms theatrically.
"Well, fine... So, what punishment do you intend to hand down, Headmaster Glenn?"
Jameson asked as if he were Glenn's superior. Glenn sighed and tucked his chin in.
"...W-Well then. For now, I suppose we'll have you leave the academy grounds..."
"Hm? The punishment seems heavier than I expected. However, even if you expel me from the academy, I can do whatever I want afterward. You need a punishment that considers what happens after that as well."
Jameson said with a smirk, and Glenn traced his chin with his finger and nodded in understanding.
"That is true... Then, we'll have you leave Wintervalley and escort you back to your home country using flight magic."
When he announced that, Jameson raised one eyebrow and gave a noncommittal reply.
"Hm... 'Home country,' you say—so you're not originally from the Verted Kingdom. But that changes things. The key is to inform all six major nations of this fact so that you cannot work at any magic academy. What do you think?"
Jameson said with a smile, and Glenn furrowed his brows and grimaced.
"T-To go that far would surely leave lingering resentment. If it comes to that, even your succession rights could be affected..."
As Glenn said that with a wry smile and wiped his cold sweat again, Jameson looked up and creased his brow.
"...Succession rights? Wait a moment—who are we talking about right now? Isn't this about Aoi's qualifications as an instructor?"
When Jameson said that, Glenn shook his head with a serious expression.
"...Prince Jameson. Please listen carefully—everything we're discussing is about deciding your punishment."
When he stated that again, Jameson froze, his eyes and mouth wide open in shock. After a moment, he finally seemed to grasp the meaning of Glenn's words, turned bright red, and stood up from his chair.
"Wh-What do you mean?! Your academy has an instructor from commoner origins who behaved rudely, yet you intend to punish me—a member of the royal family?!"
As Jameson raged, Glenn looked at me as if asking what to do. Until then, I had been watching Ardbeg to see if he would make any move, but he didn't seem to have any intention of resisting, so I averted my gaze and answered.
"...Fiddiq Academy is a place where royalty, nobles, and commoners alike can learn fairly, without discrimination. Conversely, when a royal wields their status and acts arrogantly, we deal with them the same way we would any other student who causes a disturbance. However, since Prince Jameson has not yet enrolled at Fiddiq Academy, the punishment is simply that he returns to his home country."
When I gave that brief explanation, Jameson let out an inarticulate cry and tried to argue, but he flinched momentarily at the sight of me and Glenn's eyes, then turned to Ardbeg as if seeking help.
At that, Ardbeg, who had remained silent until then, let out a sigh and spoke.
"...Having lost as a mage, I intended to say nothing more, but it can't be helped."
He muttered and then looked at me.
"...A rare mage who at least rivals me. Moreover, having acquired such overwhelming skill and magical power at such a young age, there is no doubt that Lady Aoi is a genius rarely seen in history. However, for that very reason, you seem overly arrogant... Surely you don't believe that one person alone can take on a great nation?"
Ardbeg said calmly in a low voice, and Jameson nodded deeply before agreeing.
"Th-That's right! No matter how excellent a mage you are, one person alone can do nothing against my Karvan Kingdom! In the first place, I offered to make you royalty, so why are we even discussing punishing me?! I simply cannot understand it!"
Jameson shouted, gesticulating wildly to express his anger. Well, perhaps it was that much of a humiliation for a royal.
Helpless, I decided to explain once more.
"...The issue was never about your status as royalty. The problem was that you violated the academy's rules and used magic to cause a disturbance within the grounds. If you and Ardbeg had listened to us from the beginning, this never would have..."
"Foolish! Why can't you understand that a mere instructor has no right to give orders to royalty?!"
He cut me off mid-explanation. As I thought, he had no intention of listening.
I sent a glance toward Glenn to confirm what he intended to do, but he only kept wiping his cold sweat.
"...Understood. In that case, to ensure no further trouble comes to Fiddiq Academy, I will go directly to meet the King of the Karvan Kingdom myself. As a ruler, he should be more reasonable than you, Jameson."
"Wh-Wh-Wh-Wh-What...?!"
I flatly pointed out Jameson's incompetence and declared that I would negotiate directly with the king. As expected, Jameson went past rage and turned pale.
Meanwhile, Ardbeg let out a dry laugh with a look of exasperation and turned his eyes to Glenn.
"...You certainly allow your instructors a great deal of freedom. Do you truly intend to let her do as she says? Frankly, this is sheer madness."
Ardbeg spoke words that bordered on a warning. Glenn gave an ambiguous laugh but nodded firmly.
"Haha... Well, I would stop her if she were about to do something wrong, but what Aoi-kun says is right for an instructor of this academy. If I, as headmaster, were to bend the academy's rules and yield to power, I would forget why I built this academy in the first place."
As Glenn said that with a troubled smile, Ardbeg raised one eyebrow.
"...So you're saying you prioritize the words of a single instructor over royalty?"
When Ardbeg asked back, Glenn tilted his head.
"Oh? Haven't you heard? In accordance with Fiddiq Academy's regulations, Prince Jameson is hereby expelled. That is my decision as headmaster."
