Transferred to Another World and Became a Teacher

Ch. 223 - The Misunderstanding Man

The courtyard was spacious, with garden areas, spaces for magic practice, and even wooded sections with many trees. For that reason, I was worried I would not find them right away, but surprisingly, I located the spot much faster than expected.

Simply put, I had used flight magic to look down from above and spotted unnecessarily flashy magic being cast.

Or rather, when advanced-level or higher magic was being used in the garden area with the fountain where students normally relax, anyone would recognize at a glance that something was seriously wrong.

I hurried over, and the scene there looked like a battlefield.

"Magic may only be used in designated areas within the academy! In particular, anyone chanting advanced-level or higher magic, cease your incantation immediately!"

I heard a familiar voice and looked down to see Speyside there. Several other faculty members stood at a short distance, but none of the Senior Faculty appeared to have arrived yet.

Meanwhile, the ones attempting to use magic seemed to be arguing in the plaza before the fountain. One of them glared at Speyside, who had issued the warning, and shouted back.

"And who might you be?! Surely you don't mean that rude remark was directed at me?!"

A young man around twenty, clearly of high status, said threateningly. Speyside let out a pained groan and fell silent for a moment. He was always weak against nobles.

But while he would normally back down at this point, this time he raised his voice in warning once more.

"I am an instructor at Fiddiq Academy! More importantly, regardless of status or authority, everyone must follow the academy's rules within these grounds! Even royalty is no exception!"

When Speyside shot back, the other instructors present looked stunned. Anyone who knew Speyside as he usually was would surely be surprised. And soon, applause broke out for Speyside. Some students even appeared to be clapping as well.

The young man glared at the scene with irritation and raised his voice again.

"How dare you! Why can't you fools understand that the problem lies with you for not even listening to our demands?!"

At those words, Speyside furrowed his brow and shook his head.

"Fiddiq Magic Academy does not offer one-on-one private lessons! With so many students, we simply cannot accommodate such instruction! In fact, even the regular lectures of Senior Faculty are subject to capacity limits! Please follow the proper procedures and apply through official channels!"

Speyside appeared to be thoroughly explaining the academy's rules as well. If they still refused to listen, it must be sheer royal obstinacy.

"You...! Insolent wretch!"

The man spat out in rage, raising one hand and activating his magic. Wind swirled around his arm, sending pressure even to the people standing nearby. The wind, carrying dust and dirt, became visible and howled as it shot toward Speyside. This was no ordinary wind — it was a blade of wind that generated razor-like gusts.

Dangerous. I considered lending a hand, but Speyside and the others had already moved. Speyside immediately activated water magic, summoning a pillar of water before him. Other instructors, meanwhile, fired off spells one after another to restrain the students' movements. A wall of flame rose between Speyside and the wind blade, while an earthen wall appeared around the man who had acted out, enclosing him.

These were the spells of Fiddiq Academy's instructors. The wind blade was neutralized without issue, and the man trapped within the earthen wall seemed to be shouting helplessly inside.

For the moment, they appeared to have succeeded in calming things down. Thinking that, Speyside relaxed the tension in his body.

At that moment, part of the earthen wall surrounding the man suddenly cracked and crumbled. Before I could process what had happened, the other walls collapsed one after another.

"...Subduing and restraining a foreign royal by force. I never expected Fiddiq Academy's instructors to be so extreme."

Saying that, an old man in blue robes with white hair emerged from beyond the collapsed earthen wall. At his appearance, the young man who had used the wind magic earlier broke into a smile.

"Old man! You're late!"

When the young man said that, the old man addressed as "old man" let out a dry laugh and shook his head.

"Prince Jameson moves about far too capriciously. And now that you've caused trouble, even I find it difficult to manage... Well, in any case, leave this matter to me. No matter how prestigious Fiddiq Academy may be, I refuse to fall behind mere instructors."

The old man said this and smiled fearlessly.

He seemed to be quite a formidable figure. Sensing his presence, the tension on Speyside's side also rose. The young man called Prince Jameson nodded with a smile at the old man's words. Four instructors were gathered in total, but did they believe the old man still had the advantage? Jameson gazed down at Speyside and the others with a confident smirk.

"You fools! This is what happens when you refuse to listen to me! Ardbeg is the Royal Court Magician of the Karvan Kingdom! You'll regret your mistakes!"

As Jameson puffed out his chest and declared that, the old man called Ardbeg smiled wryly and began his incantation.

Indeed, his fluid chanting suggested he was attempting to activate an advanced-level spell in just two measures. His skill likely rivaled that of a Senior Faculty member.

"...Fire magic. Speyside might be able to handle it..."

If not, I would assist. Deciding that, I watched the situation from above. Speyside and the other instructors began their incantations to counter Ardbeg's magic, but they were slightly slower.

To cancel it out, they would need to match the same scale of magic, but in that case, Ardbeg—being the superior mage—would finish his incantation first.

Now, what would they do?

Speyside immediately recognized the situation and changed the content of his incantation midway. Modifying an incantation on the spot was something the old Speyside wouldn't even have considered as an option.

Speyside, having flexibly adjusted his incantation to shape the spell, activated a remarkably fast intermediate-level water magic.

Several pillars of water appeared around Speyside, and from the pillars, streams of water branched out like extending limbs. Though each stream was only as thick as a human arm, the water pressure appeared immense.

If struck, it would certainly deliver enough force to stagger anyone.

The water streams caused Ardbeg to delay his incantation slightly. As a result, the other instructors' advanced-level spells arrived in time.

"...Dancing Flame Serpent—Dancing Flare."

The moment Ardbeg spoke those words, a circle of fire appeared around his feet. In the next instant, the ring of fire rippled and expanded, transforming into a massive band of flame with a body as tall as a person, slithering across the ground and charging straight toward Speyside.

The trees that the enormous serpent of fire passed by became engulfed in flames in an instant. The heat must have been tremendous. To use such magic in the academy courtyard where students walked was outrageous.

Thanks to the time Speyside had bought, the other instructors used earth and wind magic to intercept the path of the fire serpent. But the serpent climbed along the surface of the earthen wall, raising its upper body into the air.

Shaking its head as if to regain balance, the serpent turned its head toward Speyside and the others.

At this rate, they wouldn't hold out much longer.

"...Ice King's Ring—Ice Ring."

I murmured and activated my magic. A ring of ice appeared in the sky, emitting a chilling cold as it began to gradually descend toward the ground. The cold diminished sharply with distance, but at close range to the ice ring, the temperature approached absolute zero. The moment that ice ring touched the serpent's midsection, the fire snake froze instantly from its belly and shattered into pieces.

"Wh-What just happened...?"

Ardbeg's eyes widened in shock at the sight of the shattered fire serpent. Realizing what had occurred, the Fiddiq Academy instructors turned their faces upward.

"Ah, Professor Aoi!"

"Thank goodness..."

Some instructors and students let out sighs of relief. Though the threat had not yet passed, they appeared relieved by the arrival of reinforcements.

"Whatever your business may be, the use of dangerous magic within the academy is not permitted. I apologize, but I will render you unable to fight. We can discuss the matter afterward."

As I said that and moved to cast my spell, before I could even speak the incantation name, Jameson looked at me and opened his mouth.

"Oh! So you're the instructor named Aoi!"

Saying that, Jameson spread both arms wide and smiled. Then, he scrutinized me with an appraising gaze.

"...Hmph. When I heard the rumors, I wondered what kind of woman you'd be, but you're not bad at all. Aoi, would you like to become the queen of my Karvan Kingdom? As a matter of political strategy, I can't make you the first queen, but I can at least guarantee you the position of third queen!"

When Jameson said that, Ardbeg smiled wryly and shook his head.

"There you go making arbitrary claims again... What would you do if Lady Aoi were neither noble nor highborn? Well, in that case, we could simply have her obtain a title in another country first. Lady Aoi, I, Ardbeg, Royal Court Magician, guarantee that the prince's words are not mere fleeting promises."

And so, the two of them began chattering on as if my will meant nothing. I stood there speechless, too dumbfounded to respond, when I heard students' voices from all around the courtyard.

"Huh? Is Professor Aoi going to become a queen?"

"No, wouldn't it be better for Professor Aoi to become the second headmaster of Fiddiq Academy instead of a queen?"

"Amazing... Even without being a noble, she could become queen of a major kingdom..."

More unnecessary rumors were sure to spread. Overhearing the students' chatter, I couldn't help but grimace.
