Chapter 548 - 548: Old Prophet
Following Orvus' decision, both the elven priestess, Alfia, and the dream demon's princess, Lilith, decides to stay here, each of their reason different but related, making the remaining members of the Great Ones view them in a slightly better light than Orvus, although not too much as they still refused to help them move the leader of their group in exchange for staying with the enemies that humiliated them to the ground.
For the elven priestess, that reason would be the fact that she wants to convince the beastkin beauty to return with them, and for the dream demoness, her reasoning is that should force be necessary for Alfia to bring back Orvus, her hands will be necessary, especially since it will be difficult to forcefully suppress this lady as forget about them, even if he's greatly stronger than the beastkin, the draconic prince is incapable of doing this all in his lonesome as well.
Hence brings us to the current scene, five young people watching numerous figures depart via the skies, the heavy hearts of these figures as they fly further away from this place also being filled with relief as they thought that they finally got the chance to get away from the monsters living in this place, said monsters, both just staring at them while talking about what happened.
"Am I too merciless with them?" recalling the price of everything she acquired during this encounter with the Great Ones, Liliana couldn't help but wonder as she recalls how violent she thinks she dealt with them, expanding her still budding domain to completely suppress them, leaving severe mental trauma in the minds of these people as she rages on, before having her teacher eventually cleaning up her own mess.
Expecting the immortal-like young man to nod and agree with her sentiment, she couldn't help but feel surprised as she heard him snickering at her words, an amused smile on his face as she just stares at him in confusion, wondering what made him start snickering, and eventually laughing like that.
"Why are you laughing? Don't you agree with her? That's way too dangerous of a stunt to pull especially when most if not all of the forces behind us are stronger than Liliana here" tilting her head as she stares at the laughing figure's handsome face, even the beastkin, who is usually quite smart with her words, couldn't find anything funny on what the young vampire earl previously said, her words also earning the approving nod of both the elven priestess and the dream demon's princess.
Which just made Su Xiaotian laugh all the more entertained as he takes a glance at these ladies, rather than Liliana's he was surprised all the more by the three other women agreeing with Liliana's words, their unexpected naivete an amusing sight to him.
"Oh, Ladies, merciless? That? If anything, you've dealt with them with quite the benevolence, Liliana" he replies without elaborating further, making them all the more curious as he recalls how he dealt with his enemies in the Eastern Continent, how he either kill them, or make it so that they would rather want to die than survive on the state they are in after he's done with them.
Hearing the faint seriousness within his joking tone, the Liliana, along with the front row seats of the Great Ones who remained with them couldn't help but stop pressing more questions as they felt like they will find something disturbing if they ask him more about this.
"Well, enough of the heavy topic, just what is it that made the three of you stay here?" Su Xiaotian asked, causing Lilith and Alfia to stop in place as they really can't think of any reason that makes senses.
'Will he accept it if we told him that it's a woman's instinct?' the two of them thought to themselves as they stutter, their eyes rolling around while they push their mind to think of a proper reason for their stay here.
While they struggle with this, the beastkin beauty doesn't seem to have this problem, her eyes serious as she took several deep beaths as if to calm herself down, her expression telling everyone that she has a genuine purpose, a genuine reason for her not only to refuse returning with their group, but also to outright hurt and even attempt to kill another member of their group.
"Isn't it obvious, it's because that proves that I can cross a point of no return, and speaking of that, they seem to also realize this as well" Orvus replied with a faint smile on her face, said smile growing wider as she continues her words, pointing her index finger at the immortal-like Su Xiaotian.
"And it was all because of you, Mister with the weird name, that the guy you spared will be a problem to me in the future, so you better take care of that with me at the very least!" she said in a confident voice as if she's certain that the mysterious vampire in front of her will help her if problems regarding that arrives in the future.
"I heard from Liliana that the Bonebreaker Horde is the greatest force of the Werewolf Great Pack, surely, not to mention you three seems to share great friendship with each other, so surely, a son of a demon marquis won't find trouble with the friend of a royal blood demon, right?"
Su Xiaotian replies, sporting the same faint smile on his face as he stares with interest at this beastkin beauty, his words, albeit seemingly pushing the responsibility away from him, is completely opposite of his thoughts, as he also recognizes that even if she orchestrated all of this, it is undeniable that she wasn't able to kill who she wants to deal with because of his intervention.
"That doesn't make you less responsible for that suck up escaping from my grasp, no?" Orvus replies, the smile on her face growing wider as she felt like it has been a long while since she has truly met someone who will argue with her like this, the joy in finding someone of the opposite gender treating her as an equal rather than someone either above or below them raising her interest on this young man who appears to be of the same age as them.
"That's true, but you wouldn't be so weak to need my help dealing with that guy, don't you?" entertained with her words as well, Su Xiaotian couldn't help but smile in amusement too, curious to just where this lady, who just experienced the terror of being subjected to his strength, gets the courage to speak to him like this face to face.
"Th-that, that's true, but still…" hearing his reasoning, Orvus stuttered as she was caught off-guard, never expecting the young man to use his words to poke on the pride of being a beastkin, of being a hunter, the pride of always just finding stronger opponent to hunt, and not needing help from anyone else if said opponent is just at the same level of strength, or worse, weaker, than them.
"Forget about it, if that guy really has the audacity to get revenge in any way, I'll help, in exchange, tell me why you're really here" Su Xiaotian, seeing the flustered look on Orvus' beautiful face, couldn't help but snicker, before he sighs in defeat, acknowledging that there's really something in catching a genuine shy expression from straightforward ladies like her that pokes a soft spot in his heart.
With the condition now set, Orvus' wolf-like ears perked up as if she just heard a great news, her still blushing face now sporting an excited smile that she attempted to control by taking a deep breath, a faint smile still on her face as she starts her explanation with the most unexpected, absurd opening.
"There's a peculiar old prophet who told my mother decades ago"
