Chapter 507: Cashing In—Breaking Through

Alex's eyes are glued to the window in front of his face as he carefully reads through the stats of the [Hades' Hammer].

What the?!

Damn, this thing is ridiculous! What’s this—Hades? In other words, Pluton... this is the guy who created and built Pluton? This hammer must be ancient! No wonder it’s indestructible—if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t exist, much like the rest of the rotten trash here. This is the only thing that has really withstood the test of time, along with this wooden stand. Maybe the wood is actually expensive?

Alex uses his [Executioner’s Blade R2] to cut off a few small pieces, but the system doesn’t recognize it.

I thought it may have been Adam’s wood or something... well, whatever.

Anyway, this hammer looks like a simple tool, but being used to build something insane like Pluton, and being wielded by that lunatic Mayor... it actually changed? It’s practically a divine item now... well, not really, but it’s close. Even though it still looks relatively normal—just glowing a little, it’s without a doubt a real treasure! Funny, this isn’t even a real weapon. It’s just... a tool!

If I could actually use it... It can destroy a piece of equipment in a single strike, or if it hits an unprotected spot, cripple the user, maybe permanently? And it deals pure damage? Armor and defenses mean nothing...? This thing is really incredible.

Well, it looks like wasting five days paid off after all.

I still have plenty of time left, but something tells me this is all I’ll find here.

Maybe I’ll take one last look around, but honestly, this alone is already incredible.

Just to be sure he hasn’t missed anything of value, as planned, Alex swims through the massive hidden shipyard beneath Water 7’s base floor one last time.

Eventually, he gives up and starts making his way out—swimming back through the long tunnel, up through the Mayor’s building, through the sunken city, and finally ascending back to the surface.

I feel like I’m on top of the world! Still... there’s one problem. I might’ve found something incredible, but we’re still short on funds. Heh... there’s one plan. One strategy I’ve been saving. Originally, I meant to use this as a last resort if I didn’t find anything—but I don’t mind using it now. I’m in the mood for taking a small risk.

Having learned from his mistakes in Alubarna, Alex reaches into his inventory, pulls out his old [Jack’s Spare Silvery Mask], and slips it on. Thankfully, it doesn’t require him to unequip any other gear.

“Hehehe...” Alex chuckles, climbing out of the water.

On his way through the city, he passes several people—but each of them, upon spotting him, quickly veers away. They deliberately walk in wide arcs to avoid him, the effects of the mask already doing their work.

[Jack’s Spare Silvery Mask]

World: Final Fantasy 9

Quality: Light green

Type: Cap (Mask)

Required stats: SNS - 6 CHA - 4

Durability: 25/25

Effect: Hides your identity and immediately gives you a bad reputation among honest citizens but a neutral reputation with the underworld.

Note: Does not only make you look cool but also suspicious as hell. Works only against non-player characters, and some characters can see through this shoddy disguise with ease. Be careful who you are trying to fool.

With the mask on, Alex activates Zetsu, trying to erase his presence and appear just a little less suspicious.

After a short walk, he reaches the main street of Shipbuilding Island, and without hesitation, jumps straight into the water, activating his Sea King’s Giant Plate Swimfin once more.

He dives beneath the surface, appearing nearly invisible from above, his body shielded from sight by the water.

Every few minutes, he surfaces briefly—until his target comes into view.

Floating quietly in the water, Alex spots the sign he’s looking for in the distance, easily readable even from afar: “Cashing.” A Belly symbol is placed before it.

There it is!! Cashing!

That’s the store where Luffy, Usopp, and Nami almost got scammed when they tried to exchange their gold for Belly. The owner tried to pay them only 100 million, even though it was worth 300 million. Since the owner is a greedy scammer, I don’t have to feel ashamed about what I am trying to do, hehe. It’s a currency exchange shop... and those always carry money... lots of it. Robbing a place like this openly would be insane. They probably have guards as well. We’re right in the middle of Shipbuilding Island, the Galley-La Company is nearby, and anyone stupid enough to pull this off would have a target on their back.

However... two things work in my favour. First, Iceburg’s kidnapping has CP9 and the company scrambling. They’re all focused on finding the Mayor and searching the lower areas of Water 7. I doubt they have many people willing to help for a simple robbery.

Second, my mask. It’s helping me stay low-profile... and with my new Conjuration giving me new ways of operating.... Let’s see if this plan can work.

With his target set, Alex dives underwater again, this time not simply staying near the surface but immediately descending deeper.

As the submerged sections of the buildings come into view, Alex notices many of the windows have been blocked. To his frustration, they’re not just boarded up—they’ve been sealed shut with heavy metal plates or stones.

Did this store owner actually secure his building? Is he maybe smarter than I thought? Well, I can still try if I can’t get in a little deeper.

Still, as he descends further, he has no luck until he finally spots an opening far below the surface—however, right in the very same building that now houses the Cashing store.

Slipping inside an open window, Alex enters a dark, sunken room.

Now... let’s see if I can’t find a way upstairs.

Activating En, he quickly detects a blocked passage leading upward. It’s sealed with several thick wooden boards, but they’re old, rotting, and weak.

Alex focuses his Aura into his fist by activating Ko, smashing the boards apart with ease.

He dives upward, only to arrive in yet another similar room.

Guess I need to be patient... Slowly but surely. My strategy can work, I know it!

Repeating the same process a few more times, Alex finally reaches the area just beneath the cashing shop. However, to his irritation, the final ceiling isn't boarded up. In fact, there’s no opening at all.

It’s completely sealed with new stone construction.

They didn’t leave an entrance... makes sense, I guess. They constructed this building on top. The owner must have thought about this weakness and thus decided not to take the risk. There seems to be a thick stone plate between the sunken part of the building and the newly constructed one.

With no other option, Alex draws his [Executioner’s Blade R2], focuses his Aura into it, using Ko once again, and drives the massive blade into the stone above him.

Almost like slicing through butter, the blade cuts into the stone with surprising ease. However, as it loses speed, it stops, forcing Alex to pull it out again and stab it back into it, slowly but surely widening the cut, creating a hole in the stone. Slowly, a few rocks sink onto the ground as Alex makes slow, yet steady progress.

I can do this... it might take a while, but still! I just need to be careful... I really don’t want to bring the whole damn building down. Slowly... carefully... silently.

After a grueling five minutes, Alex manages to carve out a clean entrance, as larger chunks of stone continue to fall and sink to the ground below.

He rises upward through the opening—and finds himself in a cellar.

To his surprise, the room is completely empty. Nothing of interest, no crates, no safes. Just bare walls and silence.

Why is it empty...?

He glances around, his lower body still submerged in water.

More importantly... shouldn’t the water be flooding into the room? Why isn’t it? Is this area built in a special way? A pressure-sealed chamber or something? No, that doesn’t make any sense... or does it?

Whatever... I was never that good at physics. Forget it.

Finally, Alex ends his Conjuration and jumps out of the water, [Executioner’s Blade R2] still in his hand.

Activating Zetsu, he scans the area cautiously, but all he finds are empty rooms—until he comes across one with a large black safe built into the wall, large enough that a man could step inside.

“There it is!” Alex cheers. “Jackpot!”

Jewel would probably suggest using grenades...I gave most of them to her, but I’ve still got a few left for emergencies... should I use one? No! That would blow my cover, and it probably wouldn’t even work. My grenades are deadly, but they have three waves of attacks, and their explosive power is not strong enough to blow up this massive safe... it’s almost like a small bank vault after all. I’ll have to use my blade... It’s lost some durability, but who cares. With my STR and Nen abilities, I should be able to crack this thing open....

Alex uses Ko once again, channeling all of his Aura into his sword and slamming it down against the safe without holding back.

However, instead of breaking open, the strike produces a loud metallic screech that echoes through the room. The safe remains firmly shut, showing only a shallow cut a few centimeters deep.

The fuck?! Wait a minute... this thing’s black.

“Seastone?!” Alex mutters. “The owner must be fucking rich.”

I might look for him and get the key... I won’t be able to open it by myself. Wait... I sense something.

As he turns around, the shop owner stands right there behind him, holding a rifle pointed straight at him.

“Damn you! Another filthy robber! Why can’t you people leave me in peace?! Surrender your weapon or I... I... I’ll shoot!” the man yells.

Alex stares at him, slightly curious. He’s middle-aged, with a large pointed mustache and visibly shaking hands.

“Do you know who the fuck I am?” Alex asks, his tone both annoyed, yet also a little amused.

“No! How could I?! You’re wearing a mask, you stupid robber! Now drop your sword!” the owner barks, looking upset.

“Oh, right...” Alex replies. “You’re smarter than I thought... no... not really smart, but at least you’ve got eyes, I guess.”

Suddenly, Alex darts forward, appearing beside the man in an instant. His hand grips the rifle firmly.

The owner panics, struggling to wrestle it free, grabbing it with both hands—only for Alex to calmly twist it in a clean 180-degree bend, forcing the barrel to now point directly at the man himself.

“Aaaaaaah!” the man screams, letting go of it and falling to the ground as his knees buckle.

“You’re not very smart... why’d you even come here alone? Don’t you have armed guards? A money exchange like yours must be able to earn a lot of Belly. You’re a little silly,” Alex says, shaking his head.

“I... I’m broke! I got robbed! Five—no, six days ago! Everyone left afterwards. I’m ruined! All my money, my gold, the jewelry I stored—everything’s gone!” the man cries, tears running down his face.

“Huh?!” Alex blurts out.

No way...?!
