Cultivator of the End: I Refine My Own Death

Chapter 84 – The Price of Creation

Rin's feet barely made a sound as he stepped onto the uneven, shifting surface of the Forge of Eternity. The ground beneath him seemed to tremble with the raw potential of the cosmos, its barren expanse stretching infinitely in all directions. This was the birthplace of gods, the cradle of all that had once been—before time, before form, before even the breath of existence had taken shape. Now, it was nothing but a hollow shell, a desolate wasteland where the energies of creation and destruction swirled together in eternal conflict, waiting for a hand to shape them into something new.

Rin stood at the center of this abyss, surrounded by an unrelenting storm of primal forces. The Forge had been silent for eons, but now, as Rin's presence filled the void, its pulse quickened. He could feel the weight of the universe itself pressing down upon him, as though the Forge itself knew the gravity of the decision he had made. He was no longer merely a bystander, a player in the cycle of life and death. He was the Creator now. The one who would shape reality. But at what cost?

A ripple of energy surged across the Forge, and from the dark, a figure began to emerge. The being was neither god nor mortal but something born of the very Forge itself—a primordial manifestation of creation and destruction. Its form was ever-changing, fluctuating between light and shadow, raw energy and solid matter, reflecting the impossible task that lay ahead.

"You've come," it said, its voice a deep, resonant hum, vibrating through the very air around Rin. "You are the one who has chosen to shape the universe anew. To give birth to something that has never been. But know this: the Forge does not create freely. It demands payment. And the price, Rin Xie, will be more than you are willing to pay."

Rin's hand tightened around the hilt of his dagger, his mind racing. He had known the price would be high, but now, standing in the very heart of creation, he could feel the cost settle deep within him like a stone in his chest.

"I understand," Rin said, his voice steady despite the storm of uncertainty brewing inside him. "But I have already paid much. I have shattered the cycle, I have become what I once feared. What more is left for me to sacrifice?"

The figure before him shifted, its form becoming more distinct, as though it were watching him with an eternal gaze. "It is not the physical that you will sacrifice this time. The Forge requires the very essence of your being. Your humanity. Your connection to the world you have known."

Rin's heart skipped a beat. The truth of the being's words struck him like a blow to the chest. "What do you mean?" he asked, though he knew the answer.

"To create a new reality," the being intoned, "you must relinquish the past. The universe cannot be born from something that still clings to the old. Every piece of your humanity that remains—your emotions, your memories, your desires—must be burned away. In their place, something new will grow. Something... without limit."
